And if that's the case, then why take the HOH? Alex had a very good position in the house; if her end goal is Jess/Ramses then she's made an unnecessary move - Elena would have put those exact two up.

That's what I'm wondering too. The only thing I can think of is that she was worried that Jason was fixing to be Elena's target, especially with the hinky votes. So she may've won it in order to protect Jason.
