I took that more as Gus saying what it took to get Walt cooking.

He's not gay.
You couldn't tell he was manipulating Walt's insecurities?
His lover was murdered in front of him, he wouldn't take it so personal if not. Plus tio mocks it constantly.

This. His hatred for the cartel and specifically Hector goes beyond business. That was always confirmation to me that Max was his lover.

How's that make him not gay? Gay people can't/don't provide?
He's definitely gay.

This or Leftovers. With the Leftovers it depends on how it ends, but their ability to make an amazing show is not in question.
I really love Better Call Saul because of the acting and storyline.
I love The Leftovers because I am left every week saying 'WTF?!'

It doesn't. However I didn't get the idea he was. I could have sworn he mentioned his children at some point but I'm probably just misremembering that. And yes that doesn't mean he can't be gay. But I would argue it makes it less likely. If those facts were found out the cartel would have taken him out as that would be unacceptable.
I'd be willing to bet he isn't gay or at least it won't be shown during bcs.

They already know that he is. They will overlook it though because he 100 times better at distributing meth than they are. They can't afford to kill him.

I'm pretty sure Gus explicitly referred to his children not liking the dish he prepared when Walt was invited to his house for dinner in S3.
But you can be gay and have a wife or children.
I also appreciate that they've kept Gus's personal life ambiguous like this. Yes, it's not hard to read Max as Gus's lover, but there is NOTHING confirmed by it. Cartel guys (Mexicans ESPECIALLY) are a homophobic lot and call everything gay. It's just as possible that Hector just liked to make gay jokes to bust balls, and that Max was Gus's protege, and that Gus took his murder extremely personal.
I'm not saying Gus is or isn't gay, but I don't think either reading is more likely than the other.

Or lie about having children to relate with Walt.

It's been assumed/deduced however you want to say it that his original partner for lid pollos hermanos was his lover.
The cartel know he has a superior product and due to his status or his association with the general in Chile who later became the ruler of the country , he wasn't going to be killed by the cartel. (This was briefly mentioned in one of the breaking bad episodes) and Is based off real history

Dropping Pinochet's name doesn't make Breaking Bad based off real history.

Gus always seemed to me that he carries himself as a military man. He even wears his clothes as if they were a uniform. Very disciplined and naturally leads others.
Since the "no record before 1986" thing, and what happened with Pinochet (think it was a failed car bomb attempt set up by his own military leaders..which reminds me of Walt's season 4 plot) and how top ranking military personnel who could afford to GTFO of South america, went through Mexico and into the US under aliases to start a new life/hide.
Also, Rich Nazis who fled to South America after WW2 paid the military for protection. Maybe Mr Schuler at Madrigal owed Fring some favors for harboring and protecting his family or etc.

I still have to go with Ozymandias and Face Off.
Face Off looks even better after seeing Hector in BCS.
To me, the last two episodes of season 3 were the best. Walt rolling up on those dudes in the Aztec, then the final scene with Jesse and Gale.

Since you are the biggest fan here of my theory I saved another tidbit just for you.
In BB there is an octagon desk in Saul's office. I will give you one guess where it is right now. That's right, it is currently sitting in Kim Wexler's office. This is confirmed by Gilligan.
You can add this to Kim asking Jimmy for a dollar and Saul's loan out being the name of Kim's favorite movie. So is Gilligan just having some fun with us or is he giving hints of what is about to come? He sure seems to be going out of his way whichever it is.
I wonder if Kim will hire Ernesto to help. She will have a lot on her plate trying to manage Mesa Verde and Ice Station Zebra Associates at the same time.
