So, honest question: Is it worth watching, like at all?

No

re: Best scene in Pearl Harbor (2001)
The main thing I remember about seeing that movie was I was with my dad and we were walking out the theater and some dumb arse said something to the effect of “If we dropped all those atomic bombs in 1942, why did the war last until 1945?” My dad just said “boy you need a history lesson” as we walked by.

I have no idea why, but that’s one of those childhood memories that I have that comes back when I see mention of the movie.

I think some of the battle scenes are pretty good and I do get a little patriotic here and there. I thought Jon Voight did well as FDR, but it’s impossible to overlook some of the dipshitness of the storyline. Frankly, they tried too hard.

Michael Bay and Jerry Bruckheimer. They don't know how to NOT try to hard.

Ignore the love story. Watch it for the action.

Does Pearl Harbor (Titanic with bombs) join Avatar (Dances with Wolves - in SPACE!) in the ranks of big budget, very popular, high grossing movies with no staying power whatsoever? Movies that made billions and like, 8 people, have fond memories of seeing it more than 5 years down the road?

I am still trying to figure out why kids were playing baseball at 7 AM on a Sunday.

Another question: If I choose to just skip straight to the attack scenes and watch it from there, will I miss much or not know what's going on?

the attack scene is not dependent upon anything else in the movie, so you won't be lost.

Seriously, a movie about Pearl Harbor, and the attack on Pearl Harbor is mostly a background story.

heck, we did that in the 80's when baseball was nowhere near as big as it was in the 40's.
