It was purposely corny. I would still suggest watching the whole thing. I don't think I've ever seen so many people covering their faces or jumping out of their seats in a theater before, certainly not for something PG-13.

It was Raimi at his best.

FIFY
PA fricking sucked. Scary movies shouldn't put people to sleep in the theater. That's exactly what PA did to me.

In terms of scariest, The Grudge.

Best overall (which was somewhat scary as well), The Ring.

Jap version of the Ring, Ringu was pretty good as well.

Also, Grudge 2 was pretty good/scary.

When I first saw the previews for the Grudge I remember thinking that it was a copy of the Ring. It seems like they had the same color and general style. Maybe this is because they were both Japanese in origin(?). I think they both had the spider walking, and they both definitely had the creepy pale child motif.

I do think that the Ring was the best all around horror movie of the 2000's that I saw. Funny Games, however, was the best horror movie from a moviemaking and artistic perspective imo.

Nice cop out.

Paranormal Activity sucks. It wasn't scary. It wasn't fun. It wasn't thought provoking. It held absolutely ZERO entertainment value.

As much a waste of money as I've ever pissed away at the theater.

Drag Me to Hell was as fun a movie going experience as one can have at the theater.

You should try liking things that don't suck.

And Drag Me to Hell was a magnum opus.

Don't recall saying that it was.

But it had many redeeming qualities. PA had none.

My vote is The Grudge or The Ring.

I personally think the Grudge was scarier but The Ring had a good premise.

I loved The Ring until that bitch came out of the TV.

A cop out that was completely void in creativity.

some people are going to make up a category to avoid calling it a horror movie: IMO people don't want to call it a horror movie because it was well done.

in the same way that grimm fairy tales or the omen are also fantasy

A good movie often overlaps more than one genre

That makes sense

the omen

Not sure about this.

Of course, I just never really viewed PL as horror, but that makes sense.

I don't consider Pan's Labyrinth horror, Cabin in the Woods either for that matter.

David Bowies bulge in Labyrinth was scary itself, still gives me nightmares to this day. Too bad were talking 2000s here or we would have a winner.
