It’s a mediocre movie until Betsy Palmer shows up. Good gore effects too by Tom Savini but other than that it’s BORING.

Parts 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 are all better

Anybody that automatically assumes Friday the 13th is good because “it’s the first one” is not a fan of the franchise. It was a poorly made movie to cash in on Halloween’s success and would be forgotten about had it not been for its far more superior sequels which made the character Jason Voorhees an icon.

If it beats what I think is pound for pound the greatest horror movie of all time Texas Chainsaw Saw Massacre, then this tournament is a total and complete farce.

Who made this "all-time tournament"? There are countless worthy horror films that are inexplicably off this list.

Every. Single. Time.

The board set the field, there was a nomination round and this is the second round, there were 32 other films that made the tournament.

Edit: Looks like Godfather already explained it. Apologies. If it's your first time in these tournaments, welcome Go vote.

I’m legit shocked it looks like it’s beating the original TCM. It’s probably not even top 3 in its own franchise

I voted for TCM in the first two rounds, it is indeed a classic, but i do not enjoy it at all and have no desire to ever watch it again, the acting is just too awful to sit through. This will be the last round I vote for it, come at me

Friday the 13th is arse and should not beat TCM, for the record.

ETA: if TCM loses, you can blame this guy

I did, my only suggestion would be perhaps to have a horror tournament of horror franchises. Might make for some decent content.

Yeah to me silence of the lambs isn’t even a horror movie; it’s a psychological thriller with a handful of gory scenes. Same with Jaws; it definitely has horror elements, but I’d say it fits more in the “monster movie” category than horror.

Right? It’s like saying Seven is a horror movie. Or Zodiac is a horror movie.

Seven was actually nominated and I can't remember if it had enough votes to make the tournament, but that was one I was going to make an executive decision on to hold it out. AlenS as well.

I asked everyone in the nomination round to make a case for or against Silence of the Lambs, Tremors, Misery, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, and a few others. A pretty legitimate case was made for Silence of the Lambs, Misery, and Terminator 2 (didn't get enough votes) so I let them in.

I think Jaws without a doubt is in part a horror story. Being one of the most scary movies ever and legit culturally effecting how people view getting into the ocean gets in in on that alone. Yes it's a drama and a monster attack movie as well, but also a horror. people widely consider The Birds as an animal attack movie but don't question it being horror as well, even more so with Jaws.

Agreed on jaws and Jurassic park. I guess the question becomes what is a horror film. To me, there are levels and particularly what movies are going for, like Tremors for example. No doubt the situation of Graboids coming to a small desert town and killing folks is horror but they obviously play into the b-movie levity and humor of the characters. So is it scary? No, but it’s certainly a horror film and should be included. Now are you judging movies based on their scariness? Or are you judging the films based on their effectiveness? Or are you judging the films based on their fun level?

Seems to me, this idea needs to be explored again with set parameters so it is clear what the end objective and goal of the vote would be. I, for one, would love to participate in a more B-movie, fun level of horror film contest, constructing it, films like Chopping Mall, Night of the Demons, Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Creeps, Head of the Family, Tremors, etc. That way your results are more accurate and less debate need be had.

Jaws is gonna win, but everyone in this thread knows DAMN WELL, they’d rather be locked in a room with a great white shark than with Zelda. That bitch is the ultimate horror.
