The Wire is best TV show, ever produced... IMHO

But hard to argue against The Sopranos, if that's the type of series you prefer...

The right answer is The Wire.

It's the greatest series ever and the defining literary masterpiece of our generation.

1A. The Sopranos

1B. The Wire

Lots of potential to end up among the above: Boardwalk Empire

I wasn't planning on posting in this thread since I figured it would be almost nothing but people saying the Wire. But since that isn't the case, I will say The Wire is the best HBO series ever.

I've never seen the HBO version of the show; just the versions that TBS and E! show that are tamed.

However, I was channel surfing last night and SATC movie 2 was on a HBO channel...And as I was watching it, it's almost like they want US to believe that SJP/Carrie is 'gorgeous' and that all men love her. or at least that the George Clooney wannabee Mr. Big and Aiden. And that Samantha/Kim Cattral comes off as desperate and her character annoys me to no end.

Sopranos

No comparison except for Band of Brothers as a very close second.

Of the "New Generation" which shows, if any, do yall see entering the league of The sopranos and The Wire? The only two I could see are Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. I much prefer GOT though

And neither do it justice. It's one of those shows that just can't be watered down like that IMO.

The movies are absolute shite. Saw the first one having watched the series from beginning to end and I refuse to see the second one (or the potential 3rd coming out in the future). It's everything the series wasn't supposed to be.

If you ever want to watch it, find a way to watch it from season 1 unedited. The last couple seasons weren't very good and I contribute that to HBO letting one of it's cash cows run too long. But those early seasons were great to watch.

Game of Thrones has the potential to be absolutely epic if HBO is willing to stick with it and not go the Rome route with the series. I think Boardwalk Empire will be good, but has the unfortunate experience of being compared to The Sopranos because of it's gangster existence.
