John Hughes
Sixteen Candles
Breakfast Club
Weird Science
Ferris Beuller (sp?)
Planes, Trains, and Automobiles
All classics, all back to back to back
He found the time to write Pretty in Pink, Mr. Mom, Home Alone, The Great Outdoors, and the Vacation movies during that stretch too. The 80s would've sucked without John Hughes.

The Coen brothers:
Blood Simple
Raising Arizona
Miller's Crossing
Barton Fink
That's a four movie run that includes my favorite comedy of all time, plus a movie that won at Sundance (before it was called Sundance) and another that won the Palme d'Or at Cannes. Oh, and one of the best gangster movies ever made.
Even better, that's their first four movies.

Didn't know he did Mr. Mom or the Vacation movies. Yes 80's movies would have sucked. Wish he was still around.
