Looking to see it it this weekend with 9 year old son and wife.

Any non-spoiler reviews, unlike the other thread?

It’s a fun enough time, the plot is a bit over stuffed which leads to some anticlimactic resolutions to keep the run time short

Won’t blow your mind but you won’t be mad you went either

Do they frick around with a bunch of CGI or do they keep it mainly makeup and puppetry?

There’s a lot of different visual gags they do that pull from Burtons animated style like Coraline, definitely some CGI in there for some of the bigger scenes, but the actors are all in real make up / costumes rather than CGIing it.

It’s the only movie I ever walked out of. Made it halfway. It’s not funny, it’s pretty gross, and pg13 should have been R. I had my kids with me and that was a bad idea.

If you have low expectations and like Burton and Keaton you will enjoy it. It has the Burton style but might have suffered from too many cooks in the kitchen.

Ortega was good and hers probably should have been the only central storyline

Can you expound on why?

Lmao what? There’s nothing even close to being rated R, especially in the first half of the film

It’s closer to a PG than an R

This has Ned Flanders vibes. There was nothing R about this movie. They even bleeped an F word to keep it PG13.

Now…it’s not very good. I sat there thinking, it’s just not funny. I laughed twice I think and don’t want to spoil when.

I actually was falling asleep the first third of the movie! The only part that was good was when Keaton was on screen. It was average at best. Would not recommend to go to the theater to see it wait for home viewing!

I saw it today at AMC.

Delia, Lydia, and Beetlejuice were great.

It doesn't hold a candle to the original.

There wasn't a central plot line. It was many things going on at once. One of those plot lines could have been amazing if fleshed out more.

There are several scenes that are drawn out WAAAAY too long. Non-spoiler example- remember the original movie when there's a lip sync scene with Harry Belafonte music, it was a great scene and lasted less than two minutes. Now imagine it with a much much much shittier song and it goes on for six minutes straight.

The sideplot with Lydia's manager and their romance, completely useless.

Can't say more without spoilers, but if you don't mind spoilers, read the spoiler thread. I agree with pretty much everything that everyone said.

I've rewatched the original a hundred times, one of my favorite movies, but I can't imagine rewatching this.

I thought this movie sucked, and it's not Michael Keaton's fault, it's not Winona's, fault, it's not Catherine Ohara's fault. I think they were great.

This. As I was watching, I kept thinking there were many moving parts to this story. Which was fine, but like you said, there were parts of it, they were drawn out with oddly long exposition. The whole ‘husband lost in the rainforest’ thing was clunky in my opinion. There seemed like there was going to be a simple set up, but then that got subverted. Only with no explanation.

Adult Lydia was a bit underwhelming , to be honest.
