Saw this earlier in the week. It was good and had plenty of funny moments. It's worth seeing. I don't think it will be a classic like the original, but it was a solid follow up.
Some non-spoiler pros.
Keaton is still funny and owned the role again.
Catherine O'Hara is so damn funny. She steals every scene she is in.
Jenna Ortega (why is she so hot?) nails the mopey angsty teenager role without making you hate her.
I liked the Claymation style. Good call keeping that.
Non-spoiler cons
Too many bad guys. There are like three. Get rid of one of them.
Winona isn't a leading lady. If she has the skills, then this script didn't take advantage of them.
It really missed the Maitland couple. They centered the movie and all the chaos was revolving around them. I think Winona was supposed to be that, she didn't pull it off.
SPOILERS BELOW
I really missed the build up to the Beetlejuice entrance. We didn't see him in the first movie for like 30 minutes. There was no tension building and introduction and I really wanted that.
Sandworms seem to only serve as a deus ex machina in these movies.
As stated earlier, too many bad guys. Get rid of BJs wife altogether and make him kind of a deuteragonist but ultimately the villain like in the first one. Hell, it was hard just pinpointing exactly who was the antagonist of the movie.

I didn't think Lydia grew up to be the woman that matched her 'strange and unusual' younger self.
I get it, she was a kid, and grew up and out of some of her adolescent attitudes, but she just seemed too much Winona and less Lydia.
Sidenote - noticed a general similarity between actors Hunter Doohan and Arthur Conti. Hunter played a love interest of Jenna Ortega's character for Wednesday, while Arthur was in Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
I wonder if Jenna or the casting folks have a 'type', or that just plays well with test audiences.

The first movie wasn’t my cup of tea. I went to the new movie with the wife who wanted to see it. I thought it was fantastic. They did a great job.

Someone left the cake out in the rain
I just don't think I can take it
It took so long to make it
And I'll never have that recipe again
Oh no
That Mac Arthur park sequence was long and got that song stuck in my head.

I think I liked it more than Ghostbusters: Afterlife.(I didn’t even see the most recent one.)
Neither movies were perfect, had minor issues, but both were very watchable.
** Just hearing that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice had a better box office than Joker 2.

Finally saw this with the family last night. I gave it a solid B and we all liked it.
I thought Theroux was awesome but I'm biased because the Leftovers is top 3 for me
Overall, i agree too many villains and I thought they milked the wedding singing scene WAY too long and it didn't really stick. Also, the soul train didn't hit for me.
Other than that, I loved the performances and for a legendary sequel its much better than most

It was good, and my kids enjoyed it. Like you said, too many villain arcs going on at one time. A tighter story could have made it a really good movie.
Spoilers
I did enjoy what they did with the father. Wished it would have happened to him in real life. frick that dude.

Had no intention of watching this but it headlined on Max so what the hell, trip down memory lane.
Well made, they put in the effort.... Solid sequel... And I agree with the other poster, as for dated reboots, it is more enjoyable than Ghostbusters Afterlife. Oh and Jenna Ortega looks like a Mexican Karen Allen....And its impossible to make Monica Bellucci look ugly.
