That's like saying wrestling is fake. It's staged, sure, but when a 6'5" 280lb. is thrown on a table, there's no faking that. You don't "learn how to fall". That stuff hurts.
Just like Bear. They have a plan as to what he will do, but he still goes out and executes. So what if he stays at a Marriott? If he didn't, he'd be dead the first day with the stunts he pulls.
I look at both as educational. The point is they show you things you could do if put in certain situations. Les is more nuts and bolts and Bear is more extreme survival techniques. Both are great IMO.

more like survival stunts. Bear is all shock factor for entertainment, trying to sensationalize survival. They use his history and credentials into duping the viewers that all the 'badass' stuff he does in front of a camera for entertainment is tried and true survival techniques that he was taught or something. In fact, no survival teacher would do the stuff bear does and bear knows it too. Edward 'Bear' Grylls is all hollywood.
