This thread turned out well....
In the end, it would've been nice to see Superman acknowledge or at lease attempt to mitigate the damage happening during his fight. But it didn't happen. You also had the guy showing off his courtside tickets to a basketball game in a city where possibly 100,000 plus had just died.

I'm not weighting in on this, but since you saw it again recently.........
Wasn't primary location of the Superman V Zod fight in Metropolis pretty much at ground zero of the Kryptonian terra-forming machine? Which had already killed most (not all) of the people that were in this area?
I saw it twice in a row on it's opening weekend and seem to remember a lot of the people getting obliterated by the machine before the one on one fight in Metropolis even started. And I don't seem to remember seeing very many people on the streets or in offices as Zod/Superman smashed at each other.
Thanks in advance for refreshing my memory.

If there's one thing I can be thankful for, it's that all of you tree huggers aren't making the next Man of Steel movie. All of you have your own perception of what Superman should be. All of this going back and forth is meaningless. If you don't like it, so what, don't go see the next one. You will not be missed. There are plenty of fans out there that thought Man of Steel was badass and could care less about all of this tree hugging, hippie bullshite. If you want more of a pussy Superman, go watch Superman Returns. Clearly you are not ready for a more realistic Superman, and that's OK.
Oh yeah, one more thing. I wonder how many people were injured during this fight in a comic book.

I thought Man of Steel was one of the best sci fi/alien invasion movies I have seen. My only real problem with it was that you could have told the exact same story as a straight alien invasion movie without involving Superman at all. Change a few details and I doubt many would have even drawn a parallel to Superman, It would have just been considered a refreshing take on an old story with a unique point of view.

Apparently you lack the reading comprehension to have a proper discussion and resort to personal attacks rather than actually engaging with what people are saying.
I'm glad you enjoy completely pointless destruction in a movie that should be, and think it is, above that. That's why we have movies like Transformers or the Expendables. It's dumb action. Sure it's fun, and those movies are certainly good for what they are, but they lack real plot development or a moral center. Man of Steel should be, and certainly TRIES to be, so much more and falls, partly because of the action, but mostly because the action is meaningless.

Whoa!! Easy cowboy! I was seeing your point of view up till this rant. I can appreciate and agree with your perception of Superman. But also realize, this was the first true "superhero" in history. Not a god or a myth or a wisetale. Was he based off of past fiction and non-fictional characters in history? Sure. This was a character created by 2 Jewish boys that were hearing the horror stories of Nazi Germany and wondered why there wasnt someone that could/would stand up to the oppresed. He's been in media existance, without any gap, since 1938. Has his stories been stupid and goofy at times, sure. Has he changed over time, sure. Different people have different perceptions of how/what Superman should be. Whether its in comics, television, cartoons or radio. And to me, that's what makes him interesting. We all have our view of how Superman should be, that's part of the mythos. At least I think it is. And if Superman being the "gosh gee" will sell in the media, at that time, then so be it. If Superman being "Truth, Justice and the American Way" will sell in the the media, at that time, then so be it. If Superman's story of "growing up as a teen on the CW" will sell at that time, then so be it. And if Superman being "dark and gritty" will sell a that time, then so be it.
But the pure essence of what Superman is about will no change. It may morph one way or the other, but he will basically remain the same.
End.....

That seems pretty small for the Lexcorp headquarters.

They will prob cgi it bigger. Thats just for tight shots I would guess. Where is Gotham in relation to Metropolis geographically?
Posted on 6/16/14 at 12:24 pm to abellsujr
Could just be a research facility. Remember the LexCorp building in MoS that Superman & Zod fought in?

I don't know if you guys have seen this, but Batfleck is getting in shape.

quote:
Both Gotham and Metropolis are inspired by New York City (though Metropolis also takes some inspiration from Cleveland and Toronto, the hometowns of Superman's creators)
Geographically (though it's varied over the years), they are on opposite sides of a large harbor/bay and are within very close driving distance to each other.
Officially, however, they are in no specific state though it is heavily implied that they are on the Eastern Seaboard. Many writers and artists have come to view the combined cities of Gotham and Metropolis as being the DC Universe's version of New York City, with Metropolis representing Manhattan and Gotham representing Long Island.
Also, Metropolis is most certainly not in Kansas but Smallville (Clark Kent's hometown) is.

Gotham and Metropolis have changed geographically to suit different stories. Some comics had a bridge going between the cities, others had them in different states.
Some writers say they're Manhattan split in two sections.
I always thought that they were both on the upper east coast, between NYC and Boston.

i thought Gotham was New York while Metropolis was Chicago. I didnt think they were just a short car ride away.

Might just be one of his company's offices. A facility in Gotham or something.
If it's Luthor at the top of his wealth, I doubt that his main office has a window where he can peer down on Metropolis from the third floor.
