Ok. Love Barry, but . . .
My wife looked at me at the end of last night’s episode and said: “Is any of this real?”
I can’t even fathom what is going on, which tbh, sucks and takes the fun out and discussing it in forums like this.
Are we sure the kid is just not some reflection of Barry himself, reliving his childhood but inserting himself and Sally as his parents? The kid was passed out/sleeping for most of the episode anyway.
It’s all just so bizarre. I mean Fuches’s just-met barista girlfriend and “daughter”(who is going to Pepperdine) just sat through his speech at the table about prison and murder and didn’t bat an eye (were actually smiling). Hank is running a huge corporation and apparently lets tattooed, recently released, cons (and his thugs) walk in the front door without anyone caring. He got angry and said their enemies killed Cristobal. And Cousineau doesn’t want fame anymore?
It feels like way too much weirdness (even for Barry) with not a lot of explanation time / storytelling left to sort it all out.

My thought as well. Especially given Barry’s own dream sequences we’ve seen in the past.
I’m standing by my theory that Barry’s in an institute for the criminally insane and this is largely playing out in his head.

Or he is still in Afghanistan, dying in the village where he killed a civilian? Hench the chopper noises in past episodes? Maybe all the characters will be around him when he wakes up, ala, the Wizard of Oz.
If so, I dunno . . .

Maybe. It’s just gotten really weird. And while I’m not opposed to weird, this season has had some pretty out there moments.

I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that all of this will come together in the end but this season has been a struggle. It's like the writers got too full of themselves.
I have no clue what's going on at Barry's house. Best guess is some sort of Purgatory situation (there's been heaven/hell/purgatory scenes in the past and this may be an extended one) Barry is seemingly waiting for a sign from God via the pastor podcasts. Perhaps he's trying to get he and Sally out of purgatory into heaven. I truly have no idea though.
It used to be a dark comedy that was quirky and creative with bursts of action. Now it's just dark.

Agreed. This seems to be a lot of shows these days. Get people hooked on one thing then take a season to display your “art”

I hated the part where Sally is listening to the house get tore up and someone in black following her around and then her house gets picked up?
Wtf. Was that a dream? That was a little too out there for me

This is my best guess as to what the heck in going on.
Gene- alive and his storyline is actually occurring
NoHo- I think alive and his storyline is actually occurring
Fuches- I think alive and his storyline is actually occurring
Barry- Dead or dying and his storyline is happening in an alternate realm (Purgatory is best guess)
Sally- Dead or dying and her storyline is happening in an alternate realm (Purgatory is best guess)
Jim Moss- Dead
I think Barry and Sally "left" as planned but something happened to them to where they are either dead or clinging to life. I wouldn't be surprised if they left and actually started a family by having the son but they were all involved in some sort of life threatening accident. Perhaps a car crash caused by her drinking.
Barry has said in the past "he knows where he is going" (and it aint good). Sally could be headed to the same place because she beat the biker to death. Barry is trying to "keep her safe" and reverse her fate by righting that wrong. For whatever reason, he thinks killing Gene will do just that (perhaps by keeping him from telling their stories and all the bad things they did). He is on the brink of doing that when he is intercepted by Jim Moss. (In reality, Gene was never in any real danger of being killed by Barry since this is all occurring in Barry's mind or in an alternate realm)
Jim Moss is a master at interrogation. Makes sense he would transition to the same role after his death. He's been put in charge of deciding people's fate when they die. He is going to grill Barry about his life determine his fate. (interesting his garage has transitioned from a bare bones/barren set-up to Jim having a comfy chair and lots of stuff on the walls in his after life role)
The scenes the house are Sally's fate closing in on her. The last words of the guy she killed which probably sealed her fate are echoing around her. The guy in all black (death/Hell) is slowly closing in on her but is leaving her son unscathed. The truck ramming against the wall is probably symbolic of the car crash she was in that has her close to death.
This is probably all completely off base but best I could come up with in this weird season

That episode was weird as shite and like a fever dream. The house scene with Sally was really out there. I was also dozing off while watching it so probably made it more trippy. They need to really get the ball rolling these next few weeks but Fuchs getting out of prison was
I hope Barry takes out Gene at this point, can’t stand that guy.

Two episodes left.. I personally loved last night's episode.

I don't mind the weird if it sets up a good ending.
Otherwise, it's just weird.

Tiny bit of doubt creeping up for a good ending.

It’s feels like it’s going the way of the Sopranos, season starts great and then completely goes out in left field.

Spoiler from last ep
At the end after he's sitting across from Moss. He seems fresh-shaved and of course glasses removed.
When Sally goes in the bedroom, the masked man closes the door, right? What did you put in my eye? I did not understand any of that. A truck knocking a house over? wtf?

I enjoyed last night's episode. It was weird but I'm ok with weird and I give Hader and them the trust to end it well. I think the stuff with Sally in the house is partially her past trauma and how much she relies on Barry. She went with him because he makes her feel safe and now they seem to follow his rules and routines so without him there and with her being in charge it's falling apart. I assume that she is the one who destroyed the house (not ripped a literal hole in the wall that was just her PTSD I think) but destroyed the living room and kitchen.

This could indicate a flashback. At the end of episode 4, Moss was watching Sally's house. Maybe he captured Barry as they were leaving and this is that scene. And then in real time, Barry was actually being captured by Hank's men (who were watching for him). Except for the fact that I think Moss has the flash forward white goatee.

My take is that she heard the dude from the diner outside threatening her, and began hallucinating and did the damage to the inside of the house herself. The voices she was hearing inside the house were the same voices in Season 3 when she killed the guy. So it's probably her re-living past trauma triggered by the diner guy (and alcohol). Then at the end he actually rams the house. Or she hallucinated that too.

Barry's nose was broken and was in pretty rough shape. Doubt that happened

I can’t think of a reason he would shave Barry’s face and change his clothes if he did capture him in the current timeline. Barry hasn’t been clean shaven in a couple of seasons so this some sort of flashback or alternate/dream universe

I have no clue WTF is going on over the past couple of episodes, so I'm just gonna throw out the theory that Fred Armisen actually succeeded in popping Barry, and this is all just a coma dream.
