I never looked it up, but I always figured Spock and Saavik were Vulcan banging on the Genesis planet when they were doing that weird finger thing.

In Star Trek III Spock was aging rapidly and going through Pom Farr and Saavik likely helped him through it. At the beginning of Star Trek IV, she stays on Vulcan with Spock’s mom.
IIRC, I think the idea was supposed to be that she did have Spock’s child, BUT, Nimoy decided against including that storyline in the movie. So…..
