Agree on Red Viper. He was awesome and I'm not sure I totally buy him letting his guard down around The Mountain.

Speaking of, any casting news on Gregor? I hadn't read the books until after I watched season 1.

Rewatched the show recently and the guy they had cast as him in season 1 doesn't do him justice.

I hope they recast him the way they are with Dondarrion.

Has that been announced one way or the other yet?

So I couldn't help myself and had to Google.

For those who have read all the books (SPOILERS)

I'll paraphrase for those who haven't read past SoS though (and throw in some other stuff around the site):

This was by one of the frequent flyers at Westeros.com:

It is confirmed that season 3 will cover roughly the first half of Storm (probably up to the Red Wedding, Jon's return to the Wall, etc). We, the forum dwellers, expect season 4 to contain the remainder of Storm (Purple Wedding, Tyrion's trial, etc) with a few early parts from Feast and Dance.

- There are going to be some off the page scenes written in for Theon Greyjoy. My guess is since Ramsay has been cast we're going to get a nice introduction to him.

- They haven't cast Mance Rayder yet because they're actually putting out the word to British actors who are interested. Could end up being a big name here. They apparently offered a role to Dominic West (McNulty from The Wire) but he turned it down because of the months he was going to have to spend in Iceland.

I'm praying with fingers crossed that they can land James Purefoy for Mance. He would be $$$$$.

- Michelle MacLaren, producer and director from Breaking Bad, is directing episodes 7 and 8 of next season.

- It's been reported that certain actors (I don't want to say so the OP isn't spoiled) have signed on for long-term contracts (6 seasons) so we should have a good long run with this show.

Okay I'm all nerded out now.

I mean, the Red Wedding as a season finale is going to SUCK IMO.

You can't end a season like that with no denouement and expect the fans that haven't read the books to not freak out. In a bad way.

I'm betting HBO is smarter than that and there is another episode after RW, similar to the way they did with Ned's finale as episode 9 in season 1.

After that terrible acting job he just did in that disney movie as a villian, I'm glad this didn't happen. I just can't see him as Mance either.

I really liked the 3rd book. The Red Wedding was just so epic. Unfortunately, it was semi-spoiled when I posted in a non-spoiler thread that Robb was stupid to piss off to call off the engagement to the Frey girl and another poster said "Don't worry, the Freys get their revenge".

I also liked seeing Littlefingers ambition play out, Jon Snow being a pretty good battle commander, Stannis going to the wall, etc. I was kind of sad to see Tywin offed, but I know that scene will be hilarious when Peter Dinklage says "It appears Tywin Lannister doesn't shite gold" or whatever he'll say at that point.

I just finished the 4th book a couple of weeks ago and just started the 5th.

I wouldn't have minded seeing him in another role on the show. Maybe someone out of Dorne (not the Viper though). Disney movies don't always bring out the best in actors though. I need my gritty, drunk McNulty.

Are they going to mix Feast and Dance in the show? Or portray them as written? The show will flow better obviously if they mix them. I am already jonesing to finish the books.

I hope they mix them or it will be very confusing. Hell it is confusing to me while I am reading the 5th book and having to think of what happened at this point in the 4th book.

If I was in casting, at the very least, I'd make him tell me no.

Now I think because his role is relatively short lived, they could go big for the Red Viper.

I'm not sure but my guess is they're going to have to given the actors involved in shooting. Much like moving up Jamie and Brienne's storyline into this last season for Coster-Waldau.

Purefoy says he would be interested if it were the right role (in this interview):

quote:

With your previous history with HBO, and a lot of your fans really hoping for it, would you ever consider doing a role on Game of Thrones? PUREFOY: If it was the right role on Game of Thrones, definitely. Of course! It’s a terrific series. It’s a great series of books. I love HBO. I’m on record saying that HBO is the best television company in the world, and I believe they are. I think they absolutely understand how to make television that is really, really vital and interesting and visceral, and all the things that television really should be. I’m a big fan of HBO.
