Episode was ok. The ending though and preview for next week

I liked the episode. I was kind of surprised that Huntress took Canary in that 1st round, but then when Canary said she was holding back in that first round and then proceeded to almost kill Huntress I felt better about it. I'm a little intrigued at what Laurel's repeating what Huntress told her might mean for the direction they take her character.
And you dang right that next week's episode preview has got me jacked.

the flashbacks were easily the best parts of this episode.
i am starting to really dislike Roy. his character is just getting dumb and redundant. he literally hasnt changed since the mirakuru. its like they are keeping him in this angry stasis until they have time to deal with him.
laurels story is getting interesting. especially with the "darkness" angle. will she finally become a villain?
last thoughts: so the ending/preview was awesome. with thea in danger does this draw malcom merlyn out of the shadows?

What makes you think she'll become a villain? You do know of the character's destiny don't you?

I agree. I didn't like the actor's character on Teen Wolf either. I'm starting to think it's his acting that bugs me.

As much as I didn't like the idea of Malcolm coming back, it would be kind of cool to see a scenario where Malcolm shows up to help Oliver defeat Slade after Oliver's other teammates have been defeated.
ETA: The more I think about it, I think it might be corny to see Oliver and Malcolm fight side by side.

But we don't know how long it'll be until she fulfills that destiny. The same question about her going down a dark path crossed my mind also when she repeated the phrase the the Huntress said to her about once you let the darkness it, it never goes away (or something like that)

yeah i get where she will eventually go. i just think itd be more interesting to see her go to the dark side first. maybe get training there and then take up her mantle. this episode kind of hinted at it with the whole darkness never leaving stuff. its probably a long shot though
and bamatab, i think its roys acting as well. that guy is pretty typical to the CW and stands out like a sore thumb on the show

Here is an interesting interview with the showrunner after tonight's episode (once you get past the interview with the actress that plays Huntress.) He goes into the direction of some of the storylines. I guess some of it might be considered semi-spoilery. LINK

"Once you let the darkness inside, it never comes out"...
..is being whispered at the end of the preview.
I cannot wait for next week!

So can you explain that to me? Why would Oliver call Roy speedy? It was abundantly clear the nerd guy would be flash. So why call Roy speedy?

In the comics, Roy Harper is Green Arrow's first sidekick and is called Speedy. That's his version of "Robin." So it was just a nod to the comics. That's why Roy said "I thought you were giving me a nickname or something." I have a feeling he will eventually be called Arsenal, which is who Speedy becomes, like robin becomes nightwing

Read the link I provided above if you want some insight into what the show runner is saying about that.

Wow that is an amazing article. I love how well the show runners feed you just enough info without completely spoiling things for you. Really does a great job of teasing the future.
Seems like Helena will eventually go more towards the side of good than just evil. I see her more like a Punisher.
Glad to hear about Roy. And holy shite about next week. It could've been a mid season finale? God damn it's going to be a good episode.
We were all correct in seeing the connections with Nolan's movies since he openly admits to using that as a guide. These guys have great vision

Something I just noticed from last night's episode.
Helena and Sara did not build up any kind of rapport between each other. Sara wanted to kill her and would have had Laurel not brought her to her senses. HOWEVER, Laurel and Helena built up a relationship to the point where they almost understood each other's motivations. Helena became visibly sympathetic toward Laurel when she received the news that Tommy was now dead. As Laurel explained her downward spiral it became clear that her and the Huntress were similar in many ways.
Also...the fact that Laurel resorted to blackmail to get her old job back while invoking a quote from Helena, makes me think the "Birds of Prey" the episode title alludes to were not Sara and Helena, but Laurel and Helena.
This episode, I think, sets the stage for Laurel's journey toward becoming the Black Canary as well as her future partnership with The Huntress.
What do you guys think?
