Haha, ok did not see the lesbian twist coming.
One thing about Moira's mayoral run. She knows Merlyn is back and she knows he can still blackmail her. Why would she agree to run knowing that?

That first Sarah and Nyssa scene made me wish it was HBO and not CW. This episode is awesome!

This is the worst written episode of the series....when the best acting and character reaction is coming from LAUREL???

Katie Cassidy actually isn't that bad of an actress. She gets a bad rep because of her character.

That's what I am referring to, her character.
This show is GREAT, one of the best on TV right now.
With that said tonight's episode had some of the worst writing I have seen by far in this series: disjointed scenes (Mom being next to Blood suddenly after the really awkwardly written conversation between Blood and Oliver on the phone - Laurel suddenly appearing on the dock at the end), inconsistent character reactions (Oliver killing his relationship with his mom AFTER ALL SHE HAD DONE...over trying to protect his sister from Tommy's dad...really?), over the top acting (when Sarah says STOP then collapses dramatically), cliche' interruptions (phone ringing to stop Dad from breaking the news of Sarah earlier), cliche' lines about love, forced and unnecessary social issues interjected (Lesbianism), where was Roy? (He would have been pretty valuable), the awkward and forced "release" of Sarah, Oliver not continuing after the van with Sarah's mother because Sarah screamed...dude never gives up on a chase and was on a motorcycle chasing a van, etc.
The only reaction that made any real sense and was true to the character was how Laurel reacted to Sarah at the end.
It was like they just threw something together to make Sarah a permanent cast member on the show.

damn, dude. i actually enjoyed the episode. you make excellent points and cant really argue with much that you said. i think its less of a deal to me because its the type of show where these things will happen. its on the CW. the acting has ALWAYS been over the top and filled with cliche moments through the series. its just part of the show really.
i really do not see the "lesbianism" as an issue whatsoever. it also made a lot of sense with Sara's character and situation. and calling it lesbianism is a bit immature since sara clearly isnt a lesbian.
i do agree with your gripe about the show just ignoring characters from one episode to the next. They have done this with Roy a few times. I just dont think they had enough time in the show to do anything with him this episode. there are a ton of characters and issues to deal with. my biggest gripe is they just totally ignored Merlyn coming back. He gave Moira a pretty immediate deadline for telling Thea the truth. after he made the threat, we never see him again.
it wasnt THAT disjointed but i can see where youre coming from. my biggest prediction was that Laurel would become a future villain. it seems she is really headed down that path, which im enjoying to watch.

Am I the only one who can't stand Caity Lotz as Sara? She's almost unwatchable. I love this show, but she is bringing the quality down, in my opinion.

yes!! she talks out of the side of her mouth and just mumbles her lines. she makes the weirdest faces as well. i was hoping she would actually die tonight.

I think we may be missing the point of Sara's character. Andrew Kreisberg, one of the show runners, had a very interesting explanation:
My read is that Sara serves as the "original" Black Canary, just as Yao Fei was the "original" Arrow, and Billy Wintergreen was the "original" Deathstroke. Sara's story arc on the show will allow Laurel to become The Black Canary from the comics.
quote:
Kreisberg likens the Black Canary's journey to other characters that the show has already introduced with a twist. "Everything about our show is about origins and evolution," he says. "When we met Deathstroke, everyone automatically assumed it was Slade Wilson [Manu Bennett] in the mask, but then we revealed we met Slade Wilson later. With Tommy [Colin Donnell], we thought that that was Merlyn, but Tommy was really the beginning of the Merlyn story because we saw how it evolved to John Barrowman and beyond. Oliver [Stephen Amell] himself, when we first meet him, he's not the Green Arrow yet. The series itself is an evolution of this character."

Nah. I think they are giving Laurel the "Jesse Pinkman" treatment to make her an anti-hero later.
They did something similar with Lana Lang in Smallville.

Laurel's journey ends, at least in my opinion, with her becoming the Black Canary.
