I've been reading a lot of good stuff about this movie. Is it hype, or is the movie the real deal?

I thought it was good. I didn't think it was as great as some are saying, but it was solid and I highly recommend it.

It's the real deal but it requires you to pay attention. It's definitely a thinking movie.
Also, probably not so much for a place like this site but it's kinda controversial. I can see people having issues with it.

Reviews have been describing it as somewhat "cerebral." Is that true? I like sci-fi movies that are m like that than just an action movie set in space or whatever.

There's very very very little "action." Unless you consider writing on white boards action.

Yea, I would describe it as cerebral. It really felt like more of a character movie set in the world of science fiction, rather than a science fiction movie.
Action is minimal.
There is less action in this than Ex Machina.

Yes it's more of a "cerebral" sci-fi. It never turns towards action in a big way. It's suspenseful and mysterious til the end. It's not boring but it does require an attention span and I'll probably never rewatch it.

Would my 11 year old fully get it? He's pretty damn smart (straight A's in school).
He's been wanting to see this movie but I'd rather not spend the entire time explaining the cerebral aspects to him.

He will get it. There might be some intellectual ideas he has no experience with (about how language works) but he should be able to understand the concept and y'all can talk about those concepts on the ride home.

An 11 yr old will probably get bored TBH

I think they nailed every aspect of the movie except one. They forgot to entertain. The movie had beautiful shots, great acting, and just put together very well overall. The problem I had with it is that I just found myself bored, and I am not the kind of person that needs explosions to be entertained.

that was a good movie

People seem to enjoy it based on the other 10 threads.

I can agree. Great movie in every way, just not super entertaining. I didn't regret seeing it but I'll also never see it again.

A lot of thinking, not much action. Don't go see it at the end of a long day or you might fall asleep
