Armageddon - something I never thought about before...

The assumption with Max is that he gets blown off the asteroid when they have a blowout and his vehicle gets shot into the air. So at the end of the movie when they land back on Earth and everybody is celebrating and happy, Max is still alive inside the Armadillo floating out endlessly into space waiting to die alone. And it’s likely he won’t for a day or so when he eventually runs out of oxygen, which will be a scary death as well. Kinda weird to think about.
Or is the assumption that he just got blasted off and lands really far away somewhere else on the asteroid? Based on the scene where AJ, Bear, and Lev jump the canyon, they were floating into space until they turned on those booster things. But when Max had that blowout, they all seem to think he’s lost immediately and destined to die. And I figure if they thought he was just gonna land somewhere else they’d have discussed going to rescue him.
Also, Rockhound is basically directly responsible for Max’s death. He was fricking around on the gun shooting everything and distracting everyone, which led to them not realizing that the blowout was coming until it was too late. He even has the audacity to say “Bye, Max” as he floats away. What a dick.
Anyway, cheesy movie that is actually pretty awesome. I love it and watch it often. Just never thought about Max at the end of the movie before. Kinda sad.

I thought about that. It’s less disturbing to think that the blowout cause Max to die instantaneously for some reason (traumatic jostling around inside the armadillo, crack in the window draining oxygen, fire in the cabin, etc.). In any case, I doubt he had more than a few hours of oxygen left anyway.
As for Rockhound, yeah, if Max’s mama found out about what happened, he’s about to go to jail and/or get sued.
About the only role Rockhound had on that mission was to inform everyone that they had overshot the landing site. His expertise didn’t help anyone. They still had to drill through the iron plate.

A few things ive always wondered, How many cans of dip were the oil baws allowed to bring Into space?
How rich is Harry stamper? He apparently invented the best drill bit and is the go to off shore explorer? He has to be worth millions upon millions. No reason for him to still be on the rig other than the action is the juice for him.

Max and Bear were lucky not to stroke out during the launch and slingshot around the moon. None of those guys were in tip top cardiovascular shape.
But Max and Bear were prime candidates for cerebrovascular events and didn’t they pull 10 g’s on that slingshot maneuver?

The crew was certainly programmed like that, Harry seemed to have it together.
My guess is Harry’s dad started the biz. Harrys younger brother is in sales, bit of coke head in his 30s, spent a lot of time with clients at the men’s club and other Richmond establishments and Harry doesn’t get along with him

Harry has the money as his daughter walks around in a suit showing the rig to Japanese clients and it is called Harry Stamper Oil.

Harry has to be worth millions, but he’s the only one we never got a home life glimpse into since he went straight to NASA from the rig.
He didn’t even go anywhere during the ‘night off’. Harry will forever be a mystery. All we know is he has a friend named Crazy Willy who likes to play pranks on him. Perhaps another millionaire oil buddy since it’s assumed they play pretty big, costly pranks.
Perhaps that’s why he stayed on the asteroid. Had millions but drilling holes was all he loved. Drilling on an asteroid was the pinnacle esp 800ft through a ferrite iron plate.
