If you're my age (56) then you were expecting an action/drama movie like the Saturday morning tried to be. Sid & Marty Kroft were weird dudes but they really did their best to do a good job on their shows with the limited budget and EFX available to them.
As a kid who loved dinosaurs and adventure, the Land of the Lost was my favorite show on Saturday morning.
So the movie being a campy comedy was a slap in the face. It's the exact same way I feel about Wild Wild West. That show was badass and took itself seriously. Will Smith's movie was a slap in the face.
For those of you that are too young to have watched the OG series, I'm sure you probably like it. Hell, who doesn't like Will Farrell and Danny McBride??
But for us old timers, it sucks.
It would be like a John Wick re-make with Leslie Jones as JW and Jack Black as the screen writer.
PS, 8 year old me was scared as frick of those Sleestaks.

Never seen the remake movie, so I couldn't tell you. 2009 was reaching peak Will Ferrell fatigue, however.

Totally fair. Did not realize how much it deviated from the original source material. I went into it as like a 14 year old who grew up on Ferrell and Appatow comedies.
So it was right down my alley

it was by no means an award worthy film, but I enjoyed it.
fun fact, the little guy (name escapes me) is from Lonely Island

It also didn't help that The Hangover was in theaters at the same time, I think even the same opening weekend.

i liked it, but honestly, it would have been twice as good with ANYONE other than will ferrell in it.
The movie was obviously satire of the original TV series. Will Ferrall was perfect for that role. Just curious who you think would have been a better choice.
