Aquaman’ Sequel Officially in the Works With Writer From the First Film
quote:

Warner Bros. has taken a definitive step toward an “Aquaman” sequel, hiring David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick to write the script.

“Aquaman 2” will be produced by “Aquaman” director James Wan and Peter Safran. “Aquaman” has over-performed for Warner Bros., coming in above pre-release projections after starting with $68.7 million in its opening weekend in North America. The title gained momentum in subsequent weeks and has hit $328 million in North America and $784 million internationally, led by nearly $300 million in China. It’s currently the 21st-highest worldwide grosser of all time.

Comic-wise? True.

Animation-wise? True.

Cinematic Universe-wise?

Good for Aquaman, DC, and us.

Aquaman= familiar character, don't really know a lot about him, can't guess what direction they will go, nothing to compare it to.

Batman= familiar character, we know his entire backstory by heart, pretty sure they will pit him against the Joker, which we've seen done a few times already.

Agreed, although I think they are going with a new villain finally in the next Batman movie.

DC has a lot of heroes they can showcase, but insist on Batman and Superman over and over.

Give me a freaking Swamp Thing movie. With today's effects and an Alan Moore feel, it would be amazing.

The box office numbers are good, but how was the movie? I thought it looked like a polished wheel of cheese in the previews, but that may have just been bad trailers.

It was just as good as most Marvel intro films. Cookie cutter, good CGI, doesnt take itself too serious.

I enjoyed it for what it was.

It was fun and campy.

Remember Flash Gordon (1980)? Same spirit, without the killer Queen soundtrack, with much better special effects.

You want to analyze plots, find a different film. You want to have a fun experience, Aquaman is the ticket.

Imagine a competent director who's answer to every objection of the movie looking too much like a comic book was, "frick it. Just do it."

"In the comics he wears a ridiculously bright orange and green costume."
"frick it. Just do it."

"In the comics his brother wears a purple outfit with a fish face helmet and calls himself the Ocean Master."
"frick it. Just do it."

"His main villain wears a huge stupid diving bell helmet shaped like a fat manta ray."
"frick it. Just do it."

"There's an octopus that acts like a human."
"frick it. Just do it."

You end up with a superhero movie that isn't ashamed to be a comic book movie and doesn't waste time making excuses for the characters being strange and awesome.
