The thread about creepy villains got me remembering this movie and how god damn creepy it was. I can’t recall anything ever giving me the kind of feeling this movie gave me as a little kid

Watched this movie a lot as a kid with my sisters. It comes up often when we get back together. Such a dark children’s movie that still creeps me out. I love explaining the plot to people who haven’t seen it:
It’s a movie about a kid who sees a ghost and gets so scared, he loses all his hair. Then he gets tormented by other kids for being bald. He discovers that peanut butter makes his hair grow at an extremely fast rate. Too fast. Like 5 ft every day. Then, his evil art teacher kidnaps him and a lot of other kids forcing them to a child labor camp. He forces them to use the solution, so he can cut their hair for magical paintbrushes.

frick YES. I meant to include the artist kidnapper from it in the Scariest Childhood Villain thread the other day. This movie terrified me as a young kid.

Holy shite does this bring back some memories. About 15 years ago, I spent weeks trying to find this to show it to my wife. I think I may have even started a thread on here about it. But I never could find the name or anything, and was almost convinced it was like a false memory, of a show or movie that I dreamt up, and didn’t really exist.
Thank you OP for some closure!

I don’t know what it is about this movie, but this seems to be an abnormally common reaction. I think our generation collectively tried to block out the memories of it

Didn't recognize the name but I must have seen it at one point. Definitely remember the peanut butter treatment and then growing hair.

yep I remember the Asian kid putting the solution where it was not designed to go. And an unknown Celine Dion recorded several songs for the movie. Seems very few people remember or even know about this movie
