You're dense if you think TFA was not significantly more lighthearted; as well as attempted to pander more to today's generic blockbuster moviegoer then any of the previous instillations of the the series.

This is a fair sentiment, and I did enjoy the movie. It was entertaining. The main issue I have is a lot of people seem to be treating it as if it is a perfect movie; as if Abrams created some masterpiece instead of an entertaining film bringing virtually nothing new to the table.

It's not perfect.

It's fun. That was what the first star wars was. That first movie was hardly a masterpiece...but it was one hell of a good time.

I didn't see any glaring pot holes? But I have only seen it 3 times...

You're either an excellent troll or a borderline retarded human being. The only reason any of this exists is George Lucas. Bashing Lucas for the things you don't like without giving the man credit for creating then entire damn world is asinine. Not to mention Abrams, while very talented in his own right, is notorious for not being that original.

If you came away disappointed, then you probably either had unrealistic expectations to begin with, or were just biased against it due to them throwing out the all the books that came after, which you alluded to in your post. It wasn't a perfect movie, but it's Star Wars not Citizen Kane.

I honestly tried to not have any expectations or knowledge prior to seeing it. I was a bit foiled by rotten tomatoes and critics having placed it on a pedalstool prior to my seeing it though. So I did think it was gonna have more substance then it ended up having.

At one point in time Star Wars was original haha. Even the prequels tried to tell a new fresh story, and introduce new parts of the universe that expanded upon everything you had experienced so far. It's not too crazy to think this one might have an original plot as well.

TFA was just another super generic sci fi blockbuster. They set it in the Star Wars universe sure, but pretty much nothing new was introduced to expand the universe. The plot was a borderline copy of a plot from the EXACT SAME SERIES. I enjoyed it just as much as the half a dozen other other fancy explosions and cgi with a few cheap laughs movies that come out every year. No need to pretend like it is even remotely special. Or that it comes close to actually giving me something fresh and awesome in the Star Wars universe.

Edit: the annoying thing is if they wanted to be lazy with the plot, they could have just used any one of the books series and had an established excited fanbase of readers and fresh material for all the movie only types. They way they did it just makes the whole thing feel like it's being wasted.

Lucas did a nice job creating 1 movie that everyone loved. It's no coincidence that the most universally loved Star Wars movie is the Empire Strikes Back...something old George didn't direct.

George spent the last 30 years or so shitting on the Star Wars franchise...(han shot first because he was a killer).

So yeah, good job George, you created a universe for us to play in...now go count your billions and let actual talent continue to play in it.

JJ rebooted Star Wars...something that was desperately needed. After 30 years of George doing everything he could to kill the universe.

So basically you are mad that they didn't use the stories from the EU that were meh at best and often contradicted each other even though you knew well over 2 years ago that the now Legends series was completely irrelevant to the canon moving forward?

That's a you problem buddy.

He didn't write it either. Lawrence Kasdan did. Kasdan also wrote TFA. He's also writing the Han Solo film before he retires.

Because he needed to oversee the finances so he wouldn't have to beg a studio for money and let them frick it up. Also, contrary to what the internet says, not everyone thinks ESB is the best Star Wars.

holy shite you are stupid. I think you just read the internet to gather your opinions. Continue bashing Lucas and sucking off JJ sheep.

The more I think about it and just how bad it ripped off New Hope, I really begin to get down on it. Like, JJ literally watched a New Hope and just said, "frick it, it's Star Wars, they'll love it".

I've already bitched about a lot of other issues with the movie that put it into a solidly meh category, which is super frustrating as a big Star Wars fan.

The fact you somehow missed all of that "is a you problem buddy".

Yes, that something like the thrawn series wasn't the plot when this reboot is, is pretty frustrating as well. It was ok 2 years ago when I didn't know that was gonna be the path they took. Now that I know yea I'm pretty pissed.

That's like your opinion. I think TFA is much better than GOTG, and I have my issues with TFA. GOTG, like most Marvel films, are extremely overrated IMO.

So are you going to attempt to tell me how great the prequels were...

lol...yeah...George is great. George directed 1 great movies...exactly. Star Wars. The other 5 he directed...not so good. You must of loved Red Tails right?

George gave us Star Wars and Indiana Jones. Pretty damn good career, but let's not pretend that his vanity project..the prequels...wasn't the shite it was.

(And I say this as someone who enjoyed parts of all 3 of the prequels)

Next to the 2nd Trilogy they are awful.

You do realize that Lucas neither wrote nor direct Empire or ROTJ right? You do realize he had plenty of creative help when he was mapping out the series before A New Hope ever started filming right? The prequels on the other hand, were all Lucas.

And JJ Abrams didn't write TFA, Lawrence Kasdan did.

It is the 3rd highest grossing movie adjusted for inflation. It has spawned 6 sequels so far with many more to come. It spawned an entire Expanded Universe complete with books, comics, video games, and cartoons. It's not a stretch to call it the most popular movie of all time.

Name a more popular one right now frickstick since it's so unbelievable that you said :slow down slick"

It's a huge stretch since it's not the truth. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

What's your criteria?

Money made? Avatar

Universe size? Star Trek has generated at least as much if not more extra shite like books and merchandise and more sequels.

Considered movies you must see by the pundits? The Godfather was rated recently as the greatest movie ever made and if you don't like that one another lists says Shawshank ...

I mean you toss out the greatest...you better back it up with some criteria.
