Want a drama series on Netflix or Amazon with at least a few seasons. Here are some I loved:

Peaky
Luther
Breaking Bad
Saul
Sopranos
Wire

Since it’s back on Netflix, Avatar: The Last Airbender. If you have kids, this is a no brainer, because I think most parents will enjoy the show more than their kids. It’s basically a perfectly built up trilogy of 3 seasons. The best way to describe the show is Star Wars (OT) that takes place in Middle Earth in a Miyazaki toned setting.

I’ll put it this way: while Amazon is banking on Lord of the Rings to be Game of Thrones successor (pretty safe bet), Netflix is banking on Avatar being their Game of Thrones successor by making it into a live action. With that in mind, maybe it’s more appropriate to say it’s Game of Thrones aimed to appeal to a younger audience with a vastly superior ending.

Just a warning that Season 1 is certainly the worst season. You won’t know what you’re really watching at least until 3/4 through Season 1. Like the bad guy from the Fire Nation may seem like the most overly simplistic antagonist at first glance that you’ve ever seen, but the show intentionally lures you into stereotyping its characters to surprise you later. And then when you rewatch it, you realize there were very subtle clues from the very beginning about the true nature of the characters beneath their exterior.

If you want to skip and watch a single episode to know what the tone of the series is overall, I’d suggest “The Storm”, which is the 12th episode of the 1st season. It spoils a bit on what Zuko and Aang are all about, but that’s more the tone and overall trajectory of where the show goes.

Comrade Detective was cool.

“Parody comedy designed to resemble a non-existent gritty 1980's Cold War Romanian police show that promoted Communist ideals. The action-packed and blood-soaked first season finds Detectives Gregor Anghel and Joseph Baciu investigating the murder of fellow officer Nikita Ionescu and, in the process, unraveling a subversive plot to destroy their country that is fueled by what-else-but the greatest enemy: Capitalism.”

The series was shot back in the day and was found by Channing Tatum. He decided to dub the series over with American actors and actresses, lots of names you will know.

CD has action, drama, suspense and some over the top comedy representations of the time around the Cold War. It’s like a propaganda film that the Communists would make to influence their country during that time.
