Just finished watching Rurouni Kenshin. Or at least up until it just becomes filler episodes.

I'm watching Knights of Sidonia now.

I normally am not a fan of Gundam style shows, and I hate shows that are computer animated. But for some reason I don't understand, I really enjoy Knights of Sidonia.

If you end up liking it, try Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet. Enjoyable show, with an interesting, if somewhat predictable twist. It's also on Netflix.

Loved that one back in the day. The Shishio Makoto arc was great

Just finished Tokyo Ghoul..

Not a bad series..ending was kinda meh. Might actually have to check the manga out.

Have you seen the second season? I was planning on checking it out, but it seems the reviews weren't overly poisitve. I can't tell if that just coming from manga elitests.

Second season is decent. It's worth watching. It's more frustrating than the first season because there is no real resolution to it. In any way. But it is good imo.

So do I, wasn't judging anyone I just can't understand what the appeal of these shows are to grown adults... What is so interesting about anime?

This may sound like a flame, but it's not, I'm honestly curious.. I thought anime was weird, even as a youngster

Plenty of different genres of anime available out there. I'd think it'd be hard not to find at least a few that anyone would like.

I was describing Death Note to a buddy of mine and apparently I forgot to mention it was anime. He was super interested in it and planning to watch it until he found out it was anime and immediately did a 180 and refused to watch it .

27. I'm also a pediatrician so I am pretty childish most of the time anyway.

My mentality is, it is important to find joy in frivolous, childish things to maintain your imagination.

I like the stories and good art. I consider it no different than watching a live action show.

Also, they can do things in anime that you can't do in a regular show. There are many very deep, thought provoking shows out there.

Btw, would you give a show or two a shot if it's in a genre you normally enjoy the style of? Maybe mystery, action, drama suspense....etc.

Give us your favorite TV shows or movies in that genre, and I think we could give you an anime, in at least one genre, of which you would greatly enjoy.

Give it a shot, what could it hurt?

Honestly, I don't even watch TV, the only time I'm ever watching TV is football or the walking dead... Or anything LSU related.

ETA: what I meant was I don't religiously watch any other programs.. When my fiancé is watching TV the only shows that really interest me are like Castle, the home renovation shows on HGTV, or ridiculousness (that show is hilarious)

Then what about movie wise?

Or should I just give up?

Edit; If you like Castle, there is a show called Bones you may like. It reminds me of the real Bones actually. I'll think of more suggestions in the morning ed o1,new

I'm 30. Started watching in early teens when DragonBall Z, Gundam Wing, and Sailor Moon started playing on cartoon network. (Willing to bet most in here did the same)

Anime is just a different medium for telling a story. Just like a live action movie, TV series or a book. You can't go into it thinking 'oh it's just cartoons'. Get your mind into the stories and you forget it being a cartoon. I see it as no different than any other type of fictional media.

Also, anime can take on many more topics/situations because of the freedom of it being animated. For a live television series to convey some of the same story lines, without either massive special effects budgets or it being watered down, is almost impossible. I think only full length movies are not constricted by this.

31 here. Got into anime in the early 90s when Scifi started doing Saturday Anime. They played older stuff and Akira edited for tv was my first exposure to anime.

There's not really a lot these days that I find I get into. I'm more into violent and gritty stuff, which seems like it was more prevalent back in the 80s to 90s
