I used it to write about the portrayal of evil in adolescent literature back in college. Completely irrelevant, but whatever. Figured I'd share.
For my medieval lit class I wrote a paper on the portrayal of monsters in literature and use Beowulf and Neil's novelette "The Monarch of the Glen" to show how its changed through the years.
Monarch of the Glen is an American Gods novelette that deals with a certain monster from Beowulf and Shadow from AG.

Damn. Nice collection.

It is definitely top 5 for me.
I've considered getting, "Even Lucifer was an angel once" tattooed on me in some form.
The exact line in the novel is, "Remember even Lucifer was an angel", but I just really like the sentiment.

Anybody ever thought of a cast for this?
Only one I have a definite face for is Wednesday. I always pictured him as Ron Perlman. I think it's because one of the first descriptions of him describes him as having a grin like a chimpanzee. Ron has that grin and face.

It was my entrance into Gaiman's work.
I wish they would redo the miniseries with today's tech.

Same here.

Ehhhh. It's probably just sentimentality, but I feel like they'd ruin it. I'm a fan of keeping it simple when it comes to effects. Plus, the cast was perfect and it'd be hard to duplicate that.

For some reason I thought of Kevin Tighe as Wednesday.

The names I've seen thrown around are Brendan Gleeson, Malcolm McDowell, and Dafoe. I like Gleeson and Dafoe has the acting chops, just not really the looks.
Mad Sweeney - Dennis Leary

Anansi Boys is the best book of his, hands down, that I've read. It's much funnier than anything else of his that I've read and has more soul.
I enjoyed the Graveyard Book a lot and recommended it to people. It's for kids I guess, but there is certainly some aspects that have more impact for adults.
Ocean at the End of the Lane got pretty boring in all honesty. I'll finish it eventually, but I read i right after the Graveyard Book and they don't really mesh. Completely different writing style (which Gaiman is good at) kind of annoyed me. He went from simple prose with little supplied imagery to being super drawn out. I read that it was supposed to be a short story and I see that.
American Gods is ok. I convinced myself I liked it at the time, but looking back, I don't think I did. The characters are needlessly bleak and I didn't give one crap about any of them except the wife.

Dafoe has the same sort of grin as Perlman, so that would work.
And yes. Leary as mad Sweeney would be awesome.
Shadow will be hard to cast, I'm sure. I've always pictured him so faceless.

Any of y'all read his newest book, Ocean at the End of the Lane?
One of the best books I've read in the past 5 years.

Interesting to see the perspectives of others on Gaiman. I have never, ever been bored by any of his books.

It was probably me. Switched from Graveyard Book and in comparison, OatEotL is much, much slower and much more detailed. I wasn't really in the mood for it. In other circumstances, I might feel differently. I'll Oceans eventually and I will probably feel different, but got a number of other books to read first.

Still waiting for a Good Omens miniseries
Good Omens was the first of his works that I read and it is still my favorite, although it has more of a Douglas Adams feel to it than most of his other works. American Gods took a few chapters for me to get into it, but once I did, I couldn't put it down.

I've always pictured Shadow as The Rock. And I pictured Mr Wednesday as Bryan Cranston.
SPOILERS
Even though I'm not sure that would be practical due to the reveal at the end of the book of their relation

Oh and Low Key is Jackie Earle Haley. I probably won't even watch if he is played by anybody else
