I don't know what your AMC is doing, but matinee pricing at my AMC is 11.99+tax for adult tickets for a standard screen. We don't have a "dine in" theater either so the seats aren't nice. I only have one child they don't consider an "adult."
Like I said, a matinee costs me over $100 for my family of 5. Maybe I exaggerated a little with the $150 during normal movie times, but not by much. It's close. I am definitely not an outlier.

Oh then those prices are bullshite. Ours have huge, heated recliners. It's so damn comfortable. That's largely how I justify the prices.

I wish I could do this. I can't get over the feeling that I'm teaching my kids to steal. No judgment though, I honestly think this is a shortcoming of mine and I just can't get over it. In 20 years most theaters won't exist if they keep charging these prices so my attempt to be moral in that regard likely won't matter.

That would be nice. I wish we had something like this at ours. There is one like this the next town over but those tickets are even more expensive.

I buy over-priced tickets, popcorn, and usually an $18 beer for myself. I feel no shame not buying absurdly priced candy for my kids that will either spill it or just decide they don't want it anymore.

I’m a broken record on this and not that I don’t agree that ticket prices aren’t higher than they should be, but there really aren’t many activities available that cost a family of 5 less than 100 bucks for 2-3 hours of entertainment today.

eh...I can spend a little more than that and go to Dave & Busters, and I get a full meal out of that on top of the full day at an arcade. There's a locally owned arcade that is cheaper than that but no food.
5 tickets to a Birmingham Barons baseball game next Tuesday - $20 each; concessions probably $50.
I can rent a lane at a bowling alley for $33/hour + $5.50 per shoe rental. If we're trying to compare to a matinee, I can do this for $19/hour before 5 pm and only $3.50 per shoe rental.
If I want to spend juuuust a little bit more than going to movie, I can spend $41 each ($200 total) and take my family to the Alabama Adventure water park for the entire day. Maybe spend $40 more on food, but the drinks are included in the ticket price.
The value just isn't there for movies. Like I said, y'all are in denial.

I understand that. I’m saying I did the same exact theater but for Oppenheimer in 2023 and it was 2/3 the price. Seems like an insane jump.
Also has AMC always charged more for premium formats? I know IMAX has had higher prices but I saw Dolby Atmos showings and never remember it being grossly more than a normal ticket. Certainly not in the $30 range. Usually like $18-19

Regal Cinemark club is the best deal on memberships I have.

I showed 3-4 examples of activities that are as cheap or cheaper for as much or more entertainment. Those are just the examples I came up with off the top of my head without searching. Those aren't "subjective" examples. Those are direct, objective examples that refute your claim.

Flix Brewhouse in Katy is $11 for a ticket. $6 for a drink, IIRC, and $11 (was $8 when it was the Drafthouse, RIP) for non shitty popcorn, unlike what AMC sells. It's like theaters have forgotten the Flavacol.

No, because all of those activities last for more than 2-3 hours for $100 except for bowling at night.
