I deleted it after watching, sorry. I do believe it was the last quarter of the show.

Small picture that reads "Anna lives" superimposed on her picture. Happens 3-4 times lastin 2 seconds in a 20 second span.

It was during the 5-second bumper during the commercial beak before the last segment of the show. The one where Hicks bounces a quarter and shatters a layer off the word "Alphas" revealing @Anna_lives. It's some kind of twitter thing their rolling out.

Finally had a chance to watch last nights episode and I'm still laughing at Gary talking about his fruit

Nina's past was messed up, I can see why she has issues now. The scene where she looked at her reflection in the car window was sad

Lost Girl is pretty good. It fits in nicely with the other shows on Syfy.

That's what I thought she was doing. Loved when Hicks kicked the gun up to his hand and shot the new guy.

WARNING: I started typing this... while eating and watching baseball. So don't expect eloquence. I think "Technical Stream-of-Conscience Prose for the Tangent-Master Pop-culture Aficionado" is a fair description of what you're about to read.

YOU CAN READ THIS AS IS - OR START HALFWAY DOWN AT "NUTSHELL" AND JUMP BACK TO THE TOP.

Why it can SUCCEED: It's got some potential. The leads are engaging and the writing is surprisingly good on occasion (lots of innuendo and snappy repartee). It's centered on a world where "Fae" live amongst humans and it seems to be a familiar, but relatively untapped niche of mythology (IDK if that's the right word).

Why it could FAIL: Too many Indians, Too many Chiefs. Can be frustratingly erratic at times. The first season is more cohesive than the second one due to the fact that there was a lot of guesswork being done by the Canadian network that produces the show while they were waiting to see what happened with SyFy. They ended up with a 2nd season with twice as many episodes as the first - which they didn't know for sure until they already had a few episodes in the can. The show's creator was forced to take a back seat as SyFy got involved... New writers were thrown in the mix... I think at one point there was no Fight Coordinator at all (felt like it anyways).

Prognosis: It's not scared of showing a little skin and manages some decent gore on occasion. It's taking "storybook" type characters that run the entire good<-->evil gamut and boldly dropping them into a modern, urban setting. I'm looking forward to a 3rd season where all the writing/production design/direction/showrunner are firmly in place for a 13-episode season.
Stability + Solid Story Arch - Erratic Pacing = The possibility of a breakout year and a sizable "cult following"

NUTSHELL? I'll try: Feels like they've combined Season 1 of Buffy (the way it set the stage) and Season 1 of Farscape (Ok - Characters and their world interesting enough to overlook they're working with a limited budget). Add some elements from traditional Brothers Grimm/Eastern European folklore, Xena, Bound, Dead Like Me and Three's Company (had it been interpreted by Beetlejuice-era Tim Burton).

This is not a show that sticks to the rules. There's not a whole lot a science but tons of fiction. I like that it doesn't take itself too seriously and some of it's comedic bits are very well written, but I can't quite put my finger on something to compare it to. At various times it's akin to Evil Dead, D.E.B.S., Gilmore Girls, Kick-arse and, of course, that weird, graveyard humor you get from True Blood and other black comedies.

OK - It's Miami Vice... only in a Detroit part of Canada. Crockett is a brooding werewolf and Tubbs is his male Siren sidekick. They are often crossing paths with the PIs from Moonlighting... Except Maddie is a Succubus Debra Morgan (with a better body and control issues re: superpowers); Her parter David is a steet-smart Russian "Rave DJ's Arm Candy Gal" with mob connections.

You could also look at it like 21 Jump Street, but your Detectives are:

1) A combination of Whitney Cummings, Tomb Raider Jolie and Selene from Underworld
2) Anne Ramsey as Jamie's sister from Mad About You (who shops wherever NCIS Abby shops)
3) A hunky non-creature version of D'Argo (Farscape) spliced with the Bigfoot guy from Sanctuary
& 4) A more street-savvy version of Gus from Psych (So what if his abilities are "traditionally female powers" - He's not ashamed)

Oh - Almost forgot... All science stuff and medical attention is provided by a more attractive, lesbian version of Fred from Angel.

Got all that?

If this board has the intelligence and patience to create a "September For Dummies: Message Board Edition" for me...

I figured I could put together a whole bunch of words, too.

You're welcome.

By the way - If you liked my review of Lost Girl but tend to prefer more edgy, contemporary literature...

You may be interested in this thread-killah I gifted the More Sports Board with this evening as well:

Inducing Stockholm Syndrome: The ESPN Way (AKA: Coca-Cola & Psi-Ops Revisited)

It's about ESPN and Tim Tebow.

ETA:

Yes - That is a response post within a thread ( LINK). Linking it like that may have given the wrong impression. I couldn't ever start a thread with an OP like that. shite - what more could anyone possibly have to add to that?

/hijack

will henceforth stick to Alphas dialogue

She can't push herself... remember, alphas is narrated almost from a psychological view of the alphas. Nina had fallen so far, felt so bad, didn't want to live so strongly.. that she did what so many other people do in this situation, try to lie and convince themselves that they really are happy and that all of this is pointless.. the thing with Nina is she has an ability to alter other's minds... so her mind went to controlling herself, instead of trying to convince herself.

The scene was powerful because we see for the first time in this show, Nina has accepted that she isn't happy... and hasn't been happy for a very very long time. Dr. Rosen can actually work with her now, because she has accepted her life, for what it is. That's why she wanted to kill herself - her life wasn't worth living anymore, especially once she accepted it for what it was.
