The scene was powerful because we see for the first time in this show, Nina has accepted that she isn't happy... and hasn't been happy for a very very long time. Dr. Rosen can actually work with her now, because she has accepted her life, for what it is. That's why she wanted to kill herself - her life wasn't worth living anymore, especially once she accepted it for what it was.
