As a written story, TDKR was one of the worst major movies in the last decade. It fails on multiple levels that have been rehashed over and over on here.

I get how someone can like it though. I mean there are plenty of reasons to like it, I guess. People like Nolan. People really like Batman. People really like "dark," realistic super hero takes on childhood properties. Etc. I like below average movies too, but I can still admit they are bad.
But to believe it is a good film, and even better than an actual well made film is, well, mind-boggling.
(At least the discussion with Man of Steel is usually about it not being "as bad" as some people portray it. Proponents usually admit MoS has some big flaws. TDKR is a train wreck. I won't say a "bad" film, but it's certainly NOT good. Average at best.)
And for many reviewers to miss the point. On this whole Interstellar discussion, let's not forget The Dark Knight Rises as an 88%. Insanity. That's currently WAY above Interstellar.

But even so it's still eons better of a movie than the avengers.

And people still like it? Why won't they listen to you?

Both suck. IM3 is the GOAT. Now you all go back to sucking some dicks. Suck them long and suck them hard.

I think Nolan had a plan for the third film that went completely in the trash when Heath Ledger died.
Completely agree. Especially in TDK when the Joker says, "You and me are meant to do this forever". Or something along those lines.

this whole DC vs MCU will never stop will it? it's like the lebron vs MJ of the MTV board
FWIW, I also think TDKR is a better film than the avengers. I just didn't care much for the avengers. Idk what it was, but it just never resonated with me. I found it to be an extremely overrated film.

You put "dark" in quotation marks
Have you ever read a batman comic? It's a heavily censored industry, but for the past 30 years it has been how it started...fricking dark

I liked the TDKR in spite of its many flaws but I don't understand how people can hold it up as brilliant. Frankly it ends up being a popcorn movie after setting its sights much higher. There's nothing wrong with that, but I don't think it was the intended product. The Avengers knows what it is intended to be and executes that pretty much to a tee. For the most part if you didn't enjoy the Avengers you either don't like the fantasy action genre or prefer the DC universe so much that you can't enjoy a Marvel product

How is this even debatable... gotdamn people are weird. TDKR is a mess that becomes more obvious on repeat viewings.
Avengers >>>>> TDKR
Avengers >>>>> TDKR

It's riddled with plot holes and inconsistencies
Just like avengers, except the avengers is boring and nothing remotely cool happens in the second act, and really the "cool" factor is the only thing it relies on
No emotional weight, no interesting characters, no arcs, and littered with nonsensical shite that is directly related to the plot

well said, that's exactly how I felt about that film as well.

TDK has just as many holes in terms of "why would he do that/how would he know that"
It's just so brilliantly edited and the pacing never lets up. It's a 2:30 movie and the tension isn't relieved until the credits roll

They both are extremely over rated

TDKR is good. Not great. I wasn't "disappointed", it wouldn't hold up on its own but I can't unwatch TDK so it's very complimentary and a satisfying conclusion
There were consequences, the hero was challenged. He's vulnerable...the avengers is disaster porn and geek gasm with undeveloped characters, even though they all got their own movie
The real comparison should be TDK and the avengers (since it's the most popular and successful marvel movie)
And that one isn't even a contest.

I guess I like for the characters to be faced with a difficult choice at some point. TDK series is full of that, while the avengers are never tested beyond a 30 minute "frick yeah" nerdgasm

yep, hell I'll argue that all comic book films are overrated.
