Alien 3

To me Alien 3 felt like a side quest in a video game. Fun but not the real story or mission.

I've argued for decades on here that Alien 3 is arguably the second best of the franchise (arguably, not definitively). But I'm a total homer for A3 though, and I like it way more than most. But even if I concede that it isn't as good as Aliens (and I love Aliens and obviously understand why I'm in the minority on that), it's fricking excellent for a third installment of a franchise.

I also always say that had the marketing for A3 been different, it would have been more popular.

That was such a bullshite and disingenuous marketing ploy, and people had a right to be pissed that the movie takes place on a prison ship and nowhere near Earth.

But that doesn't mean it isn't good though. I just liked the bleakness and David Fincher-ness of it, as well as the whole cat-and-mouse angle with the xenomorph. I thought that was really cool. It was also a decent story close for Ripley (even though they kept SW in 4 as well ).

Yes I totally remember the ads with Earth on them. We all thought Alien 3 would be aliens on earth. Then it starts with everyone dead but Ripley and in a prison world.

I remember liking the movie when it came out. But watching it years later, it didn't hold up.

I know Fincher hates this movie, and there were a lot of issues and interference from the studio execs

He was forced to start filming before a script had been finalized. Writers and story concepts were constantly switched out.

He was micromanaged by the studio. I'd read that he got calls nightly telling him what he could and couldn't shoot the next day.

He basically quite Hollywood for a while because the experience was so terrible.

Agree the Alien looked really bad, and they took the story in a completely different direction, one that I admittedly would have rathered they didn't, killing off fan favorite characters that could have greatly added to a movie was a bold choice. It was still dark and gritty, well directed and acted, and had some great scenes. Charles S. Dutton is someone I've just always loved, his acting and delivery was special.
