Actor Contracts

I was wondering if anyone had a decent grasp on if actors are allowed or not allowed to tell the public, whether it be a friend or media network, the name of a TV Show they are going to be in?
One of my friends claims he is going to be starring in a TV series that comes out next year.
He says that because he is under contract he can't tell me what the show is.
Is this common?
FWIW I believe him and he has no reason to lie to me , never has but I was just wondering. I know that actors aren't allow to reveal plot and such but I didn't think it would matter to say the name of a new series.

Does your friend have a girlfriend that lives in Oklahoma that you've never met and all he shows to you is glamour shots?

IMDB has cast listings for movies about as soon as the actors are hired.

there are def things in contracts that prevent cast and crew from saying certain things
but it sounds like bs if your friend cant tell you SOMETHING about it

Unless it's survivor or it's ilk, and he's already finished filming, he should be able to at least tell you the name of it, or what it's about.

This is pulled directly for an Artist's contract I drafted a week ago as production legal.
