I know there are many threads about this film but I saw it a few hours ago and just had to weigh in with my two cents. I think it speaks to the quality (or lack thereof) of the year 2011 in movies when I regard The Hunger Games as a better movie than any that I saw last year.

No. It just happens to be an action film oriented more toward teenagers that has a very strong female as its main protagonist.

no but do expect to see a lot of teenage girls unless you go to a late showing.

Also, the director's use of shakey cam will make you think you are watching Cloverfield

It is a chick flick version of 1st Blood(Rambo)

Which really isn't that bad of a thing.
Went with the wife and daughter, it was one of their better choices.

Down side it is 2 1/2 hours

What do you think this was about? The movie really wasn't too bad at all but they fricked up the good action scenes with this shaky/blurry cam method. Maybe they wanted to be able to keep a lower rating so they didn't want to show too much actual violence I guess?

Loved it too. At first I thought the shaky cam would be too distracting but I forgot about it at some point. Also, I didn't know it was 2 1/2 hrs long and wanted more! Jennifer Lawrence is great.

This is going to be a great year for movies. So much fun and excitement coming our way!

I think the shakey cam was need in the first battle scene. There is so much adrenaline pumping and technically the camera is katniss's eyes or at least that's what I thought it was.

i actually really enjoyed the use of shaky cam. It let me fill in the blanks when the action was blurry and it definitely got my adrenaline pumping. the beginning cornucopia scene was fantastically well done in that aspect, showing that the action should be more disturbing than gratuitous

overall i would give the movie 8/10. For all the bad moments in the film (The romance, CGI and uneven pacing) there were also some pretty powerful scenes. The reaping and the tracker jacker scene just to name a couple

To be more clear, I didn't hate everytime the method was used. The above example was perfect for it. I just thought they could've used a little less of it. For example, the fight at the end with Kato didn't need it imo.
