Yeah I just read those chapters this past Sunday. I still can't believe it. Robb was spoiled for me a few weeks earlier, but I just kept telling myself that it wasn't true. Catelyn and Arya however, I had no idea about.

Literal lol at that pic gct.

frick. Yes.

As for RW, go back and read through SoS again and look at how many clues and forewarnings there were of it happening. And still it was unbelievable. fricking "mayhaps" (Don't have book with me, but saw it mentioned that Walder Frey says this early on in the ceremony. Then think back to the game the Frey kids talked about in Winterfell I believe, which was probably in CoK)

spoilerish

"Is there gold hidden in the village? Is there silver? Gems? Is there food? Where is Lord Beric? Where did he go? How many men were with him? How many knights? How many bowmen? How many, how many, how many, how many, how many, how many? Is there gold in the village?"
this character is the shite, esp this scene.

I can't wait to see it happen. Then I remember that it's probably 3 years away, if the series makes it that long.

If it helps, I'm 600 in and feeling the same save for probably 1 POV

Without giving anything away... Do we ever find out the significance of "Valar Morghulis"?

As far as I am, it's just a saying associated with a certain group I think. High Valyrian words. You do find out what it means in a Daenerys chapter in SoS though.

The name would be, kinda. Especially given how the chapter ended that the OP just read.

:bestNBAjamannouncervoice: Stolen! I'd use the other phrase, but it sounds too nice.

Up until the RW I would always wonder why Robb never had POV chapters. I guess that question was answered.

I don't think that was the reason.

Isn't like he hasn't killed a POV character before.

I think it was done more for artistic reasons.

The character had more depth by looking at him from the perspective of his mother rather than attempting to speak in the voice of a teenager trying to redefine himself.

I'm a book and a half into the series. I'm enjoying it so far but, just speaking for me personally I don't see it up there with the top of the genre.

It just seems like a lot of it seems to rely on characters acting in overly naive ways and some of the plot devices kind of hinge on sitcom like misunderstandings.

Heck, I've gone ahead and spoiled myself for much of the upcomming stuff - something I rarely do for books or for t.v. series. I just wasn't feeling the sense of suspense anyway.

So, for me it's enjoyable reading but not transcendent.
