That may be mostly true for some of them, but that doesn't mean they all have bodyguards, let alone multiple ones.

I think Rogan went to latchkey once when he first moved here and there was a bro army at that place in less than 10 minutes. He barely goes to even the clubs he owns out here

I already said that Rogan likely has some security that travels with him. But he is at his club quite often. He brings it up all the time on his podcast.

So, no comment on your bogus claim that they all walk around with multiple security guards?

I think blue collar folk identify well with many of the comics, even the rich ones. Joe is filthy rich but is well liked amongst all demographics (except women) because he doesn't talk down to people.

He rolls deep in the few instances he’s been seen around town. Idk what to tell you, but a multi millionaire walking around in public with a bunch of dudes that obsess over his show all around town or want to get a leg up, is going to lead to those guys wanting protection.

It’s very good for business for him to make it appear that is the case, but it’s really not. He shows up for the occasional kill Tony, but he’s not doing drop in sets or getting into zany antics on dirty 6th. Austin is a very small town with a lot of people, when he does pop out in public or at his clubs, you see it everywhere out here. It just very rarely happens. I don’t blame him at all, once you go to Austin hill country, it’s hard to want to leave - especially if you’re jet skiing on lake Travis half the time.

You just said he rolls with security, what do you want me to prove exactly? I’m not a paparazzi, idk what you want here my point is they are not in touch at all with any part of Austin or your local / every day person. He spends half his time in a million dollar podcast studio, and the other half doing Ironman workouts at his massive west lake compound.

Yeah I’m sure all that is true, which is why he has a massively successful podcast, the dynamics of writing a sitcom are a lot different, and writing up scenarios for people to relate to when you live in that sort of bubble, is not going to go well. And Rogan isn’t nearly self aware / self deprecating enough to make a Curb your enthusiasm type of show work.

And you are talking to a long time fellow resident. But I don't claim I have inside knowledge on all the podcaster's lifestyles that live in Austin.

Maybe I'm confused or misunderstood. I thought you were referring to ALL of the podcasters on that list when you mentioned "17 bodyguards." It seems you were just referring to Rogan?

Rogan usually does sets 2-3 nights a week at his club. Plus, as you said, he likes to go Kill Tony. So he's there half the time most weeks? That does not = "barely goes there", like you said.

You can tell the whole Austin “comedy” scene is cia astroturf by how vigorously it gets defended online

God I wish people would go back to cable. Podcasts and YouTube channels aren't going to save the world.

I know what I'm talking about too. I probably spend more time with one playing than you do. I'm just not paying attention to them. I find people whose voices put me to sleep, and listen to it low enough that I can't understand what they are saying. Kind like the way I spent my freshman year going to classes at LSU, only I'm not getting high before turning them on. Back then I could hear them, but I was distracted, so it didn't take.

If anyone is wondering, the History That Doesn't Suck is the one that puts me to sleep fastest. It's a shame that guy puts me to sleep, because it's a good listen. Doug Gottlieb is another voice that puts me to sleep, but he's been gone too much since he took a coaching job. When he's gone a female, who sounds really hot, keeps me awake laughing.

Hilarious that "five years ago" is your reference point for good Austin. Austin has been an overpopulated hellhole for the better part of two decades now. And it was overpopulated before then too, it just wasn't the completely soulless hellhole it has become.

The premise typically fades into the background or disappears in sitcoms anyway.

Some good exceptions but overall a good point that I never thought about.

Austin is a "hellhole"? I mean, it has it's downsides and it isn't the same as it was 10,20,30 years ago, but that's just an absurd statement. What could possibly bring you to that conclusion?:

Austin hasn't been the same since the Nighthawk at Congress and Riverside Dr. closed. Do people in Austin still call the homeless people "Drag worms?
