I am glad that I wasn't the only one who got that vibe. I also didn't realize that they had source material for this show. I was under the assumption that HBO just created to milk the GOT's audience.

The show has something really going for it, and it’s that the two leads are very likable. So many shows get this core requirement wrong.

It's just one episode but they really are perfectly cast, especially Egg.

That all being said… the outdoor shite was so unnecessary and bad. Why? And don’t blame me for focusing on a 2 second scene like that… I’m not the one who put it front and center in the first few minutes of getting to know the character. There were other ways of humbling him or signaling to the viewer to not take things so seriously. Why this way? fricking horrible. Really

I liked it. After the credits hearing the show runner talk about it he "I'm sorry, people are going to hate us for that" or something like that. Said that they wanted you to know this was going to be a different vibe. I didn't LOL but I kind of appreciate them willing to be different and not take itself as serious as everything else in Westeros. Hearing the showrunners talk gives me some confidence in this one being pretty faithful. If it's faithful, it's going to be good.

Dunk must have been getting it on when he was old and a King’s Guard then.

And before. He'll get laid next season and if the 'She Wolves' story is the 4th in the series, he'll get laid then too.

But yeah, in the main series, Brienne talks about how she found a shield with a strange sigil on it in her father's armory. Based on its description, it's Dunk's shield.

This series isn't some cash grab spinoff. He wrote the first D&E story in the 90's, long before the show existed. There is some really vital information in this series, especially the later stories.

GRRM has said there are no fewer than seven descendants of Dunk in the main ASOIAF story. Brienne and Hodor are two that we know of.

Has George ever explicitly said this? Brienne makes sense, we even see Dunk’s shield at one point during a Brienne scene(I don’t fully remember the context but it was there).

I know the speculation but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it confirmed

I was trying to figure out the timeline, but I guess direct descendants doesn’t necessarily mean father/son or father/daughter.

He could have meant grandkids, which would work better with timing considering the age of Hodor and Breanne.

I think most assume grandfather. Hodor isn't confirmed from what I always read. Brand had the vision with Hodor standing next to a woman and a tall knight. That's basically it. Could have been Duncan but he's also not the only tall person.

Supposedly that was something to be revealed later but we obviously know that it's never going to be revealed.

Great grandfather.

Which is interesting because the woman in question is also said to be someone else in disguise.

This board is the only board in the history of the internet that doesn't sunshine pump every show ever produced.

No other board on the internet criticizes shows.

I always thought grandfather because the theory was Old Nan was the woman. Old Nan was Hodor's grandmother so Duncan his grandfather. I wouldn't think Brienne and Hodor are a generation apart in age.

Old Nan was his great grandmother.

And it’s interesting because based on what Leaf says to Bran, she was Old Nan. Maybe that was much later though.

Ahh ok yea I for some reason always thought grandmother. Makes sense time wise given she was Old Nan even when Ned was young.

This series seems more for the fans who read the stories, for better or for worse. I could see someone who doesn't know the story being put off by the first episode. Not really any conflict and resolution. I feel like it's easy to forget what Dunk's main goal is here. I think maybe a 2 episode premiere would have been more satisfying, but we're still very early in the story.

All that being said. Show seems well done and acting is very good.

Yeah, and I thought maybe Old Nan died and was replaced by Leaf at some point, but her wealth of Dunk knowledge makes me wonder. She said she walked the world of men for 200 years waiting for Bran to be born, so she could have been Nan the whole time.

She was also almost certainly the Ghost of High Heart and possibly Maggie the Frog.

Should be noted, the hedge knight, which season 1 is based on, came out in 1998. It was the 2nd thing ever written in the Westeros Expanded Universe.

The shitting part was jarring and not with the tone of the rest of the episode

Pretty stupid. I looked past it but it bothers me

There's no way. Kid is a near perfect casting.
