A couple of My Cousin Vinny questions

Towards the end of the movie after they dismiss from lunch, the judge calls Vinny into his chambers and tells him he heard back on Joey Gallo and learned he was dead. Vinny tells him no he his not Gallo but Callo with a C...
Next scene Lisa walks into the diner where Vinny is sitting, trying to figure out a rebuttal to the expert car/tire witness. She shows him the pictures she had developed and he goes straight into mocking/belittling her, causing her to run out never giving Vinny a chance to explain what went down in the Judges chambers and how he cleverly changed the name from Gallo to Callo. One of the pictures she gave him was of the tire tracks with one track going over the curb/median which he never picked up on until a little later after he is sitting in court.
After Vinny sees the picture a light goes off and he gives the Sheriff a piece of paper which presumably asks him to trace any Pontiac Tempests that may have been involved in arrests over the last several days
During this whole sequence of events he had no contact with Lisa until he sees her out in the lobby on the phone when he wants her to take the stand as a witness...my 2 questions:
1. How did Lisa know to tell her contacts back in New York to come up with false information about Joey Callo?
2. How did Vinny figure out on his own that the the tracks could not have been caused by a Buck Skylark but rather a Pontiac Tempest?

Questioning plot holes from My Cousin Vinny. Brilliant.

He just knew. One has positraction and one doesnt. Same way I know the New F150 can have an ecoboost engine and the chevy doesnt.

They've bothered me for a long time

The second one is easy cause he worked at her father's shop and could have known this.

I think they both worked in her father's garage and were both car experts. I don't remember the details about Lisa's involvement with the Gallo/Callo thing. BTW, I always found it funnier to spell it "Callow", and I'm surprised the learned judge didn't comment on the appropriateness of that name.

He could have very easily just cross examined the FBI guy and made him come to the same conclusion as he did with Lisa.

All short men are born with an extensive knowledge of rear slip differential.
It is known.

This is one I never understood. It didn't really hold water

Because he had enough car knowledge to know this. He saw it as soon as he looked at the pic. All New York guidos know that a 1963 Pontiac Tempest was the only car capable of leaving those tracks

Just go back, watch the movie again and stare at Marissa Tomei's arse the whole time.
You'll be fine

Cut scene that ended up on editing room floor. It is in the original script.

He knows cars. It is established that he worked at her father's mechanic shop.
