Lots of truths in this thread, but this statement isn't one of them:
Superman is literally the baddest motherfricker in the galaxy. His only weakness is some rare mineral not found on our planet. The only person close to him in the Marvel character log is Thor, and even his powers can be taken away if he pisses daddy-o off.
It's also what makes Superman movies hard to portray. He has no equal on Earth, just a pissed off genius businessman with a massive case of penis envy. All of his villains are from his home or other places in the cosmos.
I'm actually writing a Superman script right now that I feel addresses this sort of problem for him, because I had the idea and said frick it, might as well write it down. If anyone wants to give it a read, let me know.
