Moonlight, Nomadland, the Artist, Birdman, and (I'll argue) the Shape of Water.
What about them makes them artsy exactly? Not saying all those were my favorites or should have won in their years, but these are just a random assortment of major dramatic movies in the past few years. I’m curious what exactly sets off the “artsy” alarms when we are talking about an industry that is an art.

liked Parasite, EEAAO, King's Speech, Greenbook, 12 years a slave, Argo, CODA, but those were at least accessible to most people.
Are we talking accessible because of the content here or accessible in terms of access to see these movies/box office scores?
If the former, I’m even more confused at these nebulous definitions given the examples you have here, and if it’s the latter then the issue you have stumbled upon is not related to which movies get awards, but rather which movies get the marketing, push and attention that the movies outlined in the OP are getting.
The Oscar’s are not a most popular movies competition. It supposed to be about the best movies. You can disagree that they choose the best movies in these categories, that’s kind of the entire point, but I don’t quite understand the idea that the Oscar’s some how have a responsibility to speak to the largest possible audiences tastes.

Anora was the best film I watched all year outside of maybe Dune Part 2, I'm glad it one.
If a movie like Anora is too artsy or inaccessible for someone then idk not to be rude but just stick with something else.

There's a thread pinned to the top of this board that you missed. It's what you were looking for.

Neither Inside Out 2 or Moana 2 were particularly good.
Moana 2 sucked and had bad reviews but Inside Out was very well done. 92% critics, 95% audience and A audience score. It also made 1.7B total. It’s the best animated movie Disneys done in a while.

There was a time that the best movies were also among the most popular. The 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s were all dotted with films that finished in the Top 10 of the box office and won the top prize at the Oscars. Meanwhile there have only been four films this century that have won Best Picture and finished ranked Top 10 at the domestic box office: Gladiator, Chicago, Return of the King, and Oppenheimer.
Compare that to the 1990s alone: Dances with Wolves, The Silence of the Lambs, Schindler's List, Forrest Gump, and Titanic.

that movie was awful as was her performance.
She wasn't that great in the first one. They literally cast her because she looked like the concept art.
During the Disney Renaissance, they cast classically trained vocalists who could actually sing female power ballads.

Yes, those all won best picture. Who considers dances with Wolves, Forrest gump, or titanic to be the best movie of their respective years?

That's not what I'm arguing.
I'm simply saying that there was a time where films that won the Oscar for Best Picture were both good and popular. While it's true there is an argument among a lot of people who care that the aforementioned films weren't the best of their respective years, few of those same people will deny that those films were good.
