well them integrating seamlessly and steam rolling all of the competition doesn't exactly make for a good movie does it?

Then why even make it? The true story of the 1971 T.C. Williams football team does not warrant a movie. They were integrated, they had very few outward racial prejudices against each other, and they kicked arse throughout the entirety of their season. And the racial tensions in the city of Alexandria, while present, were nowhere near to the levels the movie portrays.

I was admittedly moved by the power of the story when I first saw it. Several years later, however, when I actually started doing some digging into the actual T.C. Williams, I was disappointed to find out that hardly any of it was true.

I don't recall the movie depicting a huge amount of racial tension. Just a few yahoos and people being uncomfortable with the integration.

It was cliche, but I liked the movie.

Pretty much everyone around Gary was depicted as having issues with it. His girlfriend, best friend, and somewhat his mom. It's basically a 3rd of the movie. The training camp at Gettysburg is supposed to be powerful.

Finding out the school was integrated way prior and the combination of schools gave TC a completely unfair advantage ruined this movie for me.

They put like 3 schools together so they had like 2.5 times the enrollment of the next biggest school in the state. They manhandled everyone that year.

They should have made it about my high school. We had a couple of big racial fights where athletes were involved in the mid 70's. We didn't make the playoffs, but we had a 7-3 record. Nobody was suspended or arrested even though one guy got thrown through a window in the principal's office after the original fight had been broken up. Guess there weren't any adults involved that could be made into heroes for a movie.
