YouTube TV has ESPN Unlimited fully integrated in it's app.

No need for the EPSN App anymore. If you have the default channel lineup it shows up under the ESPN Channels. It is essentially a shortcut to take you a hub for all ESPN Unlimited content. There also are a few college games displaying that are live. Only college football from what I can tell. Other live stuff like volleyball, soccer, US Open, etc is found trough the shortcut channel.
If you have a custom lineup it is at the bottom and you will need to go to the website and reorder the channels to bring it up.
This is excellent as everything is in one app and you can switch between ESPN Unlimited and regular YTTV content on the fly and in the navigation while watching a show.

I noticed the picture looks more clear and high def as well this year.

It's legitimately awesome because you can build your own multiview using both YTTV content and ESPN+/SECN+ content within YTTV.

DIRECTV streams had this for two years
Channels 200-210 are Netflix, hbo max, espn plus, etc
Makes a world of difference

I hate having to switch between apps

I noticed this also, particularly with extra channels of US Open coverage.
However, I don't have an ESPN+ subscription.
Maybe they are just promoting it to non-subscriber for a week or two?

Explain. I see none of this on my Direct TV Stream lineup. Just scrolled the entire channel listing.

If you have YTTV, you get ESPN unlimited now which includes + (now called select)

YouTube TV and ESPN partnered to make ESPN Unlimited free. As long as you have a YouTube TV package (Main Plan or one of the sports plans) that has the basic ESPN Networks, it will be available.
