When a whole bunch of bigger schools don't want play this is what you get.
I believe the new tournament that Fox is putting on actually pays the players.

Yeah, I would imagine this will be the new big second tournament. Or some other version where the players are paid or there is a prize money for the winning players.
NIT might not exist within a couple more years.

I thought they liked playing basketball. I guess not.

The final list of schools that officially turned down NIT invites:
Butler
Florida State
Georgetown
Indiana
LSU
Nevada
Northwestern
Pitt
Providence
Rutgers
South Carolina
UNLV
Villanova
Wake Forest
Should be a penalty that if you’re invited and turn down the NIT, you can’t go to any postseason next year… doesn’t the NCAA own it now?

The field for Fox's The Crown came out this morning. Not sure how teams will stay intact in the portal era but if they can keep the tournament field together it's an NIT killer.

NIT had some great games over the years but they need to move it back to Madison Square Garden.
No cap, the NIT died when they left the Garden. Teams would play hard when the goal was to make it to The World’s Most Famous Arena in the greatest city in the world New York. No one wants to go to mid-arse Indy and play at Hinkle Fieldhouse.

It crazy to look at the brands in the field just a few years ago compared to what they get now. 2019 NIT featured Bama, Arkansas, Butler, Creighton, Georgetown, Indiana, Memphis, NC St, Providence, Texas, and Xavier.
