Not only that, he hails from my hometown, and not only that, I'm very familiar with the family. They go to my home parish and I am acquainted with his uncle.

The Oxford star had been committed to play college baseball at Auburn before deciding to pursue the professional route.
The Cardinals selected Maniscalco with the 50th overall pick, adding one of the youngest and highest-upside position players in this year’s draft class to their organization.

I just don't understand going to the minors instead of college as a 17 year old. I'm not shitting on the kid by any means - college is just an experience that you're not going to get by sitting on a bus with older guys going all over a part of the country. Athletes are treated like royalty on campuses, whereas in the minors you're an employee.

I don't want to speak for him, but knowing the family it wouldn't surprise me if he couldn't care less about the college experience.

Baseball is the true beautiful game. What a moment for the kid and his family. I have two boys of my own that are both very good so I know the sacrifices his parents have made along the way. Lots of travel, money, and time.

Lawd, life comes at you fast. His dad was good friends with several of my college buddies who graduated Oxford in 99 and attended AU same time as me.
