It’s not a “playoff” if you win every game and still don’t get a shot at the title. That’s just an exercise in futility. That’s a rigged system, a mythical national title.

Yeah, those who rig the system are going to suddenly stop because a playoff is in place. Just how naive are you?

quote:

The NFL plays 16 regular season games to determine 14 playoff spots. There’s no “eye-test” to determine who gets those spots.
And that's why the NFL regular season is boring.

quote:

The conferences are of different sizes and vary wildly in strength. This makes individual wins and losses a difficult metric by which to evaluate teams because not all wins are created equal and teams from different conferences rarely have many common opponents.
And that's what makes college football so great. And also why you can't try to fit that square peg into the round hole that is the NFL playoffs.

quote:

As said previously, I would prefer no more than 8 teams, with conference championships making up no fewer than 6 of the slots. Every team would then start the season with a real path to a championship. They would be able to win the games in front of them to get a playoff spot, and then get a chance to take down the kinds of teams that already make the “invitational” under the current regime.
You already have that, it's called the NFL. Go watch that and stop trying to bring college football down to that level.

Good, you also see how terrible an idea a playoff is.

Why would you want to bring college football down to that level?

Not sure what you're trying to say here. Please tell me you aren't naive enough to believe all that gets cleaned up with a playoff system.

You’re right people don’t want to THINK about who is they best. They would rather the teams play and KNOW who is the best.
13 games played on the field pretty much tells me all I need to know.

BTW, Alabama and Georgia have already played.

Does it? Who was better in 2004? USC or Auburn?

Who was better in 2003? LSU or USC?

13 games didn’t answer those questions and those are pretty big questions.

You’re advocating for the former system. Which was a pick 2

It's literally every single level of college except FBS (pre BCS)
You knew this,correct?

Do what? Are you not aware of what
went on?

Please tell me you aren't naive enough to believe all that gets cleaned up with a playoff system. It's better BY FAR.Are you trying to tell the selection comittee is bought off? You wanna tell me how and when?

Depends on the situation. How good was the PAC-12. Who did they beat in non-conference. How competitive was the SEC. Who was the 1-loss to.

So subjectivity and eye test. Got it.

No, we want definitive closure and head to head outcomes. We want the players on the field to determine it, not media members and voters. And yes I’m fully aware of who is currently on the committee.

It's an overall problem with our society. It's why we have 24/7 "news" channels; to tell you folks what to think so that you don't have to be bothered thinking for yourself.

I don’t disagree with you, but just what in the ever living frick does this have to do with anything?

Are you saying a playoff is just as corrupt as the old bowl system? How is deciding it on the field not dramatically, and borderline infinitely, better than subjective opining.

No, you don't. You want a playoff and it doesn't matter to you what that entails.

Alabama and Georgia have already played. But that doesn't matter to you because it's the playoffs and that's all the counts. Not the regular season, not head-to-head.

umm, yeah, the team that has the best season wins the Natty. What a crazy way to determine a champion, huh?

9 out of 10 times the media vote is a mere formality. After a 13-game playoff - the best playoff system in sports - it's pretty obvious who's the best.

What other sports determine their champion this way? What other levels of FB?

Every single lesser league, that's who.

Any other brilliant questions?

WTF? Every single lesser league (God knows what this means) rewards the team with the best regular season with a championship?

Like who? Not DIII,DII or FCS or even NAIA
