regardless.. kershaw is always going to will your team into the playoffs.

i still trust kershaw more over the regular season. he was the best player of the mlb. at some point he has to turn it around in the playoffs.. also perhaps he just struggles against the cardinals in the playoffs.. it happens with a certain team..

kershaw was just 21-3, meanwhile giants barely snuck in and bum lost like 10 games.

So if you were starting a franchise in the NFL, you would rather have Eli Manning, Ben Rothlisburger, and Tom Brady than Peyton Manning?

Not talking about team postseason success. Individually, Peyton Manning is a better playoff QB than all those except maybe Brady, even though he has less rings.

People assume that individual playoff greatness = rings but that's not always true. The year the Cavs got to the finals and were swept by the Spurs for example. LeBron didn't get a ring but his postseason performance that year might be the greatest individual postseason performance in basketball history.

Well that's not true either.... Mannings playoff stats are not great at all

Manning has one of the worst drops in regular season vs. playoff performance of any QB in history. The gap between his regular season perfomance and playoffs is staggering. He dips about 30% below his regular season average.

While Montana actually improved his performance, more TDs per game, QB ratings, fewer interceptions.

Wait, how the hell did this turn into a Manning vs. Brady debate?

Not arguing this, but I'd still rather have 70% Peyton Manning than 100% of any of those other guys.

Montana is an exception, but you'd expect most players stats to be about 20-30% worse in the playoffs since they're facing better defenses.

The same justification you are using for bumgarner over kershaw is what you are ignoring with the manning choice

Even with this dip, he is still better then almost all qbs Qbs in the playoffs, even better then Joe Montana

Peyton in playoffs: 65%, 286 yds/game, 1.6 td/game 1int/game

Montana in playoffs: 63%, 250 yds/game, 1.9 td/game 1int/game

Amazing how ESPN makes perception reality to alot of people

ETA: The Manning sucks in the playoffs is the worse most moronic myth in all of sports IMHO. His playoff numbers are HOF worthy

Kershaw, and it isn't even remotely close if you are a logical-thinking person

Despite his postseason troubles, I would still take Kershaw

we all realize that if they had a semi decent pen this year, he would've been removed from the last game after six DOMINANT innings and this wouldn't be a discussion?

Or that in game 1 he would've been taken out earlier following six dominant innings and a few runners on in the 7th?

people cannot be this obtuse to easily buy into narrative can they?

Yes, what the media says people eat to like lap dogs. Look at the manning playoff numbers I posted, Romo gets labeled a choker even though he has the highest Qb rating of all time in the 4th qtr etc etc

I mean, he's been bad in the playoffs, but are you gonna decide who you like based on a 51-inning playoff selection size? Or the 1378 innings in his career where he's been out of this world... absolutely dominant/unstoppable... and far-and-away the best pitcher in baseball?

not really though.

2009: 6.2 IP with 2.7 era. Good playoffs

2010: 6.2 IP with 9.7 era. Bad playoffs

2013 Nlds. 13 IP .69 era. Excellent performance

2013 Nlcs. 10 IP 6 Era. Not good

Then you have this season. Where he was great through 6 innings in both performances, which for a playoff baseball team 6 innings of shutout baseball should be plenty for your starter

Yeah, this really shouldn't be a debate. I was shocked to see Kershaw left out there to give up all those runs.. Was crazy.. Plus this was with him pitching on short rest.. If you are starting an mlb franchise the number one guy you'd take is Kershaw

I thought clicking on this thread I would see a Jose Fernandez name in here. Not Bumgarner. He's a great pitcher but no way in hell am I taking him over Kershaw.
