A guy who plays in my home game won a 10k buy in for a seat in the Main Event. Won a tournament at Harrah’s, NOLA.

Seems like the peak of poker on television was 2003-2009 or so.

You don’t see it televised nearly as much as you used to.

Just got back from there yesterday. The room at Paris is huge! It amazes me how many folks have 10k to light on fire. The 10k bounty event was going on Saturday. About 650 players and well over 1/2 under the age of 35 - wish I had had that kind of fire power at 25!

There’s Global Poker that operates on the blurred lines of legality by using “sweeps cash” instead of actual dollars, but online poker is a shadow of what it once was.

I enjoy playing poker but after about 5 hours in a tournament, I’ve had enough, can’t imagine playing long hours for a bunch of days straight like in the main event.

It’s on less premium networks now, mostly CBS Sports Network, ESPN lost its rights. I know WPT is mostly on local Fox or Ballys now instead of the Travel channel.

The ESPN highly edited main event broadcasts gave everyone a distorted view, it made poker seem so exciting before you realized they were showing you the best hand from 8 hours of play and the rest was boring as hell.

Yeah, I was talking to the friend I mentioned earlier at our game last Friday night asking him if he had a strategy. He said that he was going to play super conservative, mainly because the Main Event has two hour blinds. What the hell, that just creates a multi-day fold fest.

True but if you are paying 10K, at least you get your moneys worth unless you run into a brutal cooler.

I can’t stand tournaments where the blinds go up every 20 minutes and by level 5, it’s all in or fold, waste of time.

I played in a 400 dollar tournament at the Wynn last time I was in Vegas, lasted about six hours, was a loooooong way from cashing. Qualified via satellite for a 600 dollar tournament at Tunica and made it to day 2. Usually play in the 100-200 dollar range.

It's a skill/competition and I think Chicken wants it on this board instead of the OT.

Chris Ferguson once described the main event as hours of sheer boredom combined with moments of sheer terror.
