You can attend and share the moment with your family. Those aren't mutually exclusive.

True but I see no reason to go if you had the option to stay home.

To each his own.

I’m the kind of person where I wouldn’t want everyone’s eyes on me. But those also make for a bad quality in a high profile athlete (see Ricky Williams).

If I had a choice of being there in person or a house party, it would be a house party hands down.

I agree with Celtic Dog. I'd go.

It's a big honor to be drafted on the first night.

But I would not hug Roger Goodell. I don't know why people do that. I would shake his hand and that's it.

No because when I’d flame out in a few years I don’t want ESPN to always play the footage of me shaking the commissioner’s hand then holding up my jersey when talking about what a bust I was.

Wow, so even in your imagination you are a flop.

Do I have to pretend I like Goodell?

it feels like less and less players attend every year.

Id throw a party, or have it at like applebees. That would be cool too.

I'm with you on that point.

I think by the time guys get up there, they have hugged mom, dad, an uncle and their gf, so they are much in their feelings.
For most, a dream come true.
Handshake for me.
I'm a union guy. Some day I'll be at the negotiating table. Business partners at best, not friends.

Miami drafting Ted Ginn Jr. over Brady Quinn was one of the GOAT moments:

I enjoyed every minute of that first round. Watching that overrated dipshit slide down the board, looking like he was going to cry with each passing minute. After Miami passed on him ESPN had to put him in a private room, away from the cameras. It made it even sweeter when he was a big bust. I hope Brady Quinn is turning tricks in a Greyhound bus station men's room for pocket change.

I wouldn't go or have cameras. I could see me doing something like this.

pretty sure only the top 10 are told to be there by their agents.

i think if a top 10 pick isnt there for the on stage photo ops it looks bad unless they had a good/excused reason to not be there
