Would in-season MLB tournaments in non MLB cities be a helpful way of drawing

new interest?

NL central and AL central playing in New Orleans would be a really fun experience and the tournament cities could rotate all over the place. I would have the records included in the season final standings and choose playoff seeding based on winning percentage as teams would play a different total number of games.

Attendance and television numbers seem to be doing well. I don’t think they need to go out of their way to try to reinvent the wheel.

I like this idea of mid season tournaments floating around sports. Think it's a good way to break up the monotony of a long season. Id be for it. Have it be like ALC 1 vs NLC 5 and so on.

At the very least I think a series in a city in the TV market away from home would be interesting and a cool way to draw in fans outside your traditional metro area. Rangers and Astros play a series in Austin or San Antonio or something. Braves and Orioles or Nats in Charlotte, etc.

I’m not opposed to a tournament idea either in baseball as a way to draw interest in the middle of the season.

I dont think a baseball tournament is reinventing the wheel...they occur in every level of baseball outside of professional

Not to be a shite starter, but compared to what standard? I'm not a MLB fan, but I see many highlights where stadiums appear less than a quarter filled. I also read post on here about really bad World Series TV numbers. Is this a situation where you compare against an even worse period of time to make the current look better?

I don’t understand this ‘new interest’ thing. People who are going to be interested in baseball already are.

So you dont understand how more exposure to something could peak your interest?

I understand it but it is not needed in baseball, a sport where half of the fans are purists and want zero change.

Three game set at Alex Box. I'll bring the trash can.

The average baseaball fan gets older every year which means they are garnering less and less interest of the 18-49 demographic that advertisers crave. There is definitely a need in baseball to attract a younger audience. The purists are not just going to simply stop watching baseball because its a tournament game and maybe this brings people to parks who otherwise would have no chance to ever see a major league game...win-win

Baseball needs to stop thinking of ways to reinvent the game and get back to its roots. They need to promote the minor leagues. Maybe some MLB academies across the country like they have in Latin America. Get back to fundamental baseball.

IMO, analytics is not suitable for baseball. Bring back the .300 hitters, stolen base artists. put some anticipation and excitement back in offenses.

drawing new interest
Until boys evolve into no longer enjoying hitting balls with sticks (10million years by my estimation), this won’t really be a problem.

Unfortunately they need to enjoy other people sometimes hitting balls with sticks

Wait there’s a TV ratings issue?
NBA finals have to be lower than that
