I think theres some college baseball teams and fan bases that would still watch.

Just a thought

Those fans are of the teams that often make the NCAA Tournament. The average person in the US doesn't watch the main tournament. They aren't going to have interest in a NIT. MAYBE people like Ole Miss and Miss. St. fans this year would watch, but it's unlikely such a tournament would generate sufficient revenue to make it a remotely viable option.

You can't view college baseball through the prism of LSU fans. We are the EXTREME outlier. Most fans, even of many teams in the NCAAT this season, don't care at all about college baseball.

Barely anyone cares about the main tournament as it is.

Let’s keep it that way.

Most summer leagues start next week, and it is probably better for a lot of those kids to go get their work in there.

no point in that most players are already moving on to collegiate summer leagues anyway

Do you watch the Baton Rouge Rougarou? Did you know there was summer collegiate baseball in Baton Rouge? That's how people would view a NIT Baseball tournament. Completely apathetic to it and forget about it once they heard about it.

The only interest I’d have in this is if they did some type of cross divisional invitation. Invite teams from NAIA, D3 and D2 to play in a tournament. That would be fun to watch.

OP may not realize, but these kids are on flights to the Cape Cod and Northwoods league the day after selection show. No one is going to give up a chance to play in Cape Cod to play a back up tournament with their old squad.

While the idea of an additional tournament (say 16 team max) would be nice, if you're not among the 64 then many of those players are getting ready for summer leagues and often traveling out of state to participate. Would probably rather get solid playing time than being in some consolation tournament.

Also throw in that pitchers don't to have their arms fall off for a useless game that doesn't even matter.

Most great ballplayers never step foot on a campus.
