Until last year it would have been the Cards with the Saints close behind (I would still say the Mecom-era Saints were the worst NFL franchise of the last 50 years). But that's all changed.

The Browns and Lions once had great teams and that shouldn't be forgotten, But narrowing it to the SB era, I think they are the finalists -- with the Lions winning the prize. At least the Falcons have been to a SB.

The way I see it, the Saints are tied for 12th out of 32 in all-time Super Bowl wins.

Not even in the bottom half anymore.

Modell voluntarily left the Browns "franchise" in Cleveland. Baltimore, still bitter about the Colts, didn't want another team's history. In fact, Baltimore made one last bid for the Colts franchise name/history when the Ravens moved, only to be rebuffed.

The NFL moved in the day after Modell moved the team and promised Cleveland a new team that will still be the Browns. Which, as a Baltimorean, I consider one last middle finger to Baltimore from the NFL, who did nothing for us regarding the Colts and in fact bent over backwards to thwart our efforts to get another team (most egregiously, by rigging the expansion to make sure B'more didn't get a team).

In short, Cleveland doesn't really know what its like to lose a team.

So do most, if not all Baltimoreans share a hatred for the Indianapolis Colts or is there still old generations of loyalty? I'm sure a Super Bowl victory has helped the city embrace the Ravens, but I'm always curious as to how long it takes to develop a true fanbase.

It depends on the generation...

I think old Colt fans have moved on. they have memories of the real Colts and they don't recognize the Indy team, as the old players have embraced the Ravens and are treated as our history.

My generation still absolutely hates the Colts. Because our team was taken when we were kids and we went 13 years without a team. We have no real "good" memories to fall back on. We are, by far, the most bitter.

the youngest generation doesn't care. They are the only ones who would even think of rooting for the Colts, but only as bandwagon fans. A high school kid could wear a Colts jersey without fear of getting curb stomped now.

But no one recognizes continuity between the franchises. Johnny Unitas once successfully sued the Colts for trying to use his likeness to sell license plates. Indy has the "record book" but the players don't recognize it.

I feel for ya Baloo. I'm old school enough that I still say Baltimore Colts occasionally (LA Rams too ).

Some of my best early football memories- when Tom Matte played QB, the year when tied with GB and had to have a playoff game- lost in OT, I cried.

I thought the Saints were gonna be da shitz cuz they got Johnny U's backup. What shaft job
Bubba Smith and Bill Curry cogs that fueled Colts success that started a long line of what-ifs for NOLA.

The whole "record book" thing pisses me off. I feel that the NFL was right in that Cleveland was allowed to keep the history. Just like I feel that the Houston Oilers brand should belong to the city of Houston, not Nashville. Houston got screwed.

Houston's got a case too, though the NFL did not maneuver to prevent them from getting an expansion team. But Cleveland was given a sweetheart deal: keep the Browns, lose Modell. Yet they are held up as the fanbase that suffered the most from a franchise move, when the opposite is true. they made out like bandits.

Roger Carr.

On a side note, I also once stayed at bert jones sorta hunting camp in Texas. Ate dinner with him as well. Wasn't into football much then so didn't know who the hell he was.

I'd go with the Lions, espescially if you limit to the Super Bowl era, which I think you should as it is a clear line in which to draw.

Detroit has been to 1 NFC championship game, correct? The Browns top that.

I once interviewed for a job with Johnny Unitas' backup.

That's mine.
