Blue jays were practically fielding a minor league squad for almost the entirety of extra innings.

True. But one can argue that in the postseason it’s a game between the managers. Dave Roberts won this one.

Explains Bobby Cox's postseason record then.

The reason those Braves teams underachieved under Cox is that they were constructed for the regular season and not the postseason and unfortunately they pay off the big trophy on the postseason. Winning a jillion division titles in a row doesn’t mean jack caca in the grand scheme of things.

Dave Roberts doesn't win, he just falls into not losing

The Braves milked the hell out of that streak for years.

Ehhh Roberts totally screwed up by pulling wrobo for treinen and he should have let either sheehan or Kershaw (preferably Sheehan) keep going considering both are starters by trade and has the ability to eat a lot more innings.

Doc left him in a little too long in his previous outing...probably still had some PTSD

True, and it was an accomplishment, but under Cox they won the big trophy one time and it's about winning the big trophy.

What I meant about them not being built for the postseason, they hung their hat for a decade on starting pitching and starting pitching is fantastic to get you through the regular season. IMO it is not as important in a short series as middle and short relief. People on Facebook baseball groups every other day are posting stuff lauding the Orioles' 1971 staff that had four 20-game winners, but the fact remains that they didn't win the big trophy at the end of the day.

The Braves also consistently had miserable benches. Like in 1996 the Yankees could conceivably bring Wade Boggs, Darryl Strawberry, Cecil Fielder or Jim Leyritz off the bench to bust open a game and Cox kept sending up damn Luis Polonia to pinch hit.

He also got totally lucky with Klein. No one expected that.

On the other side, the Jays’ bunting expert looked like he’d never bunted before, etc.

It was a pretty wild game, even considering the length. The Dodgers made plays to save the game while the bats were cold. Came down to one swing.

Well, I’m sure Jays fans would say it came down to one missed pitch call. I haven’t seen much about it, and figured it wouldn’t be covered, b/c Ohtani and Freeman sells better than Dekinger level umpiring miscues

Dodgers likely win Series either way, but it ended up adding an extra game to the series that included some really bad baseball that should never have been seen.

Yeah, I lost track who was coming out ahead, but there were bad calls going both ways on balls/strikes.

This is a Dodgers slanted thread, and they were always winning a 7 game series regardless, but there is no arguing that the deciding run would have scored in the 2nd inning

Won’t happen next season. Just a damn shame that some good baseball from the 2 best teams this year couldn’t be decided without being scarred with that mishap

Those extra innings also exposed some poor fundamental baseball, baserunning, and several instances of mismanagement of the roster by both managers

Could have done without seeing all that
